Grand Saline Public Schools report 876 students enrolled across 12 grades on Dec 17, the highest tally to date. Elementary 548 pupils, grade 5 71, senior high 257, and daily attendance at 819, with potential for two more teachers if kept. Noted attendance leaders include Florine Darnell, Strickland, and Baldwin.
The Germanys of Dallas formerly of Grand Saline face a New Year party invitation mix up after their five year old son Pad distributed mimeographed invites along the street. A note on the invitations says only responses will be declined, leaving the couple unsure how many may attend.
Grand Saline High School and district have earned membership in the Southern Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges. A committee led by Dr C L Wisseman evaluated the school in October, with reports shared in November and December, confirming accreditation and allowing graduates to apply to any U S college or university.

The Corky Germany Ht Hos pital staff celebrated the holidays with dinner and gifts at the Ranch Motel Cafe Wednesday night. Almost all the force attended for a baked ham dinner before an early end when a phone call announced a Christmas gift recipient awaited.
Funeral services were held Sunday for Mrs. George Beck enell a registered nurse at Corby Cremany Hospital She died in a Tyler hospital after surgery and had been ill for months The last rites were at the Methodist Church Emory Texas with Rev Wallace Miller officiating Burial followed in Emory Cemetery Partley Funeral Home had arrangements Mrs Beck is survived by her husband George Beck of Emory.
Santa Claus walked into Grand Saline Elementary during a party to greet students from first through seventh grade. He distributed candy to each child as teachers and youngsters reacted with amazement, while Ray Boutwell assisted Santa in exiting amid eager clingy children.
Dale Crest Church invites all to a preaching and singing service from Dec 31 to midnight as the old year ends and the new one begins. The church also hosts old fashioned singing every first and third Friday, welcoming all who enjoy the tradition.

Funeral services were held for Mrs Jack Martin on Saturday December 15 at Eubank & Co Funeral Chapel with Bishop Louis R Hamblin and Rev H G McBride officiating. Interment followed at White Rose Cemetery. Mrs Martin born December 11 1875 in Van Zandt County was a lifelong Fiwood resident and Church of the Latter Day Saints member. Surviving daughters and sons include Adel Gorach Edna Pollard Horace Horton Pat Harkness Ted Martin and J R Martin with siblings and half sisters noted.
The Van Zandt County workers conference will meet at Good Hope Baptist Church on Saturday January 5 with a 10 a m song service and devotional. Elders Irby McWilliams Aaron McGlawn and J R Meredith address the morning session. Lunch follows at noon and a 1 p m business session precedes the afternoon message by Elder Jack Wages with host minister T L Nadapeth.
