The Grand Saline City Council ordered Southwestern Gas and Electric to install 27 mercury vapor street lights. Fourteen replace the downtown whiteway. 13 will line Highway 80 from Florence Street to Armstrong Produce. Installation starts in about 60 days and aims to brighten the downtown and highway area.

Van Zandt County Red Cross officials gathered at the Service Cafe in Canton Tuesday night at 7 for dinner and a meeting. They reviewed last year’s activities and discussed plans for first aid instructor courses for Hilliard and for bus drivers, with school superintendents to meet next day to plan classes.
