Grand Saline to install 27 mercury vapor street lights

The Grand Saline City Council ordered Southwestern Gas and Electric to install 27 mercury vapor street lights. Fourteen replace the downtown whiteway. 13 will line Highway 80 from Florence Street to Armstrong Produce. Installation starts in about 60 days and aims to brighten the downtown and highway area.

Buffalo Barbecue At Plantation Club Dallas Christmas Party

Mr and Mrs John Korleski and Mr and Mrs Mack McDaniel attended a Buffalo barbecue at the Plantation Club in Dallas for a Dallas Chapter Texas Mobile Homes Association Christmas party. Guests danced played games and won prizes after the unusual meal.

Mrs W K Savage 59 lifelong Grand Saline area resident died Friday after a five day illness in a Grand Saline hospital. Services were held Sunday at 38 p m at Nazarene Chapel Cross Roads with Rev Harold Spann officiating. Interment Rogers Cemetery. Lions Hold Christmas Party With Music and Gifts

The Grand Saline Lions Club hosted its annual Christmas party at the cafeteria with guests including the ladies. A donated tree raised funds for gifts to the needy as the high school choir and a new dance band performed Christmas music.

Rev. Simpson Daniel 50 longtime hospital chaplain dies of heart attack at home on hospital grounds in Owentown. A former First Baptist pastor of Troup, he is survived by wife Alice two sons David and John a daughter Mary Alice his mother three brothers and three sisters with ties to Tennessee and New Orleans. Christmas Carols Brighten Old Folks Home

Twenty youths from the First Methodist Church led by Sam Fowler with piano by Mrs Myra Kennedy sang familiar carols for residents of Young Rest Home at 5 p m on Sunday. Red Cross officials meet in Canton for dinner and briefing

Van Zandt County Red Cross officials gathered at the Service Cafe in Canton Tuesday night at 7 for dinner and a meeting. They reviewed last year’s activities and discussed plans for first aid instructor courses for Hilliard and for bus drivers, with school superintendents to meet next day to plan classes. Local Gray Lady volunteers were praised for aiding mental patients, and a course for Mrs. Brin of Dallas was outlined. Directors sought fund raising chairmen as Wills Point already met its quota.
