Sabine Project Outlined Plans For River Development Could Benefit Entire Valley
Sabine Over Development Association leader Pat Smith outlined a river development plan to create a large lake east of Tawakoni, spanning Van Zandt and surrounding counties. Benefits cited include flood control, cheap shipping, new jobs, tourism, and potential regional water supply, with government land purchases and maps to inform affected landowners. The plan anticipates a three to five year lake construction, attracting new industry and boosting population, though local farms face land loss considerations and government flood elevation controls.
