Grand Jury Returns 13 True Bills in Van Zandt County
The Van Zandt County Grand Jury returned 13 true bills and two no bills last week. Indicted were Jarvis Eugene Pickens Jr for criminal mischief after breaking a plate glass window at Brockles in Canton. Jerry Lee Roberts for burglary of a habitation at Jack Kellam's residence. Freddie Wayne Fry for burglary of William Lockhart's home. Wayne Chaney for aggravated assault after allegedly firing at Jimmy Ballew. Ricky M Sturch and Gregory L Sturch for burglary of a habitation at Scott Helber's home. Donnie Ray Stanley for burglary at Charles Nape's home. Continued on Page

The Grand Saline High School gym hosts an invitational tournament December 8 to 10 with about 120 athletes. Boys and girls brackets, seven trophies total, and trophy rounds Saturday highlight the event sponsored by the Indian Sports Booster Club.

Parade Winners Announced in Christmas Float Contest
Winners in last Saturday's Christmas parade were East Texas Deaf and Hearing float first, Anderson Nursing Home of Grand Saline second, and Mineola Kiwanis Club third. Prizes of 50, 25, and 185 dollars were awarded by the Grand Saline Chamber of Commerce from out of town judges. The annual parade drew a large crowd to view floats and greet Santa Claus.

Nancy Young was sworn in as Van Zandt County Clerk filling the vacancy after Lester Slaton resigned. She served 18 years as a deputy. Judge Richard L. Foster Shelter Seeks Contributions for Van Zandt Care Facility
Construction of the Van Zandt County foster shelter continues with funds nearly spent or pledged for materials. County officials say about 5000 in additional gifts are needed this month to push the project through January, with total donations at 23944.23 and two weeks bringing in 829 from residents. The house relies on donations and volunteer labor and will halt when funds run out.
