Father of Texas Farm Bureau Dies in Abilene
J Walter Hammond 79 former president of the Texas Farm Bureau died at his Abilene home after illness. He led the organization from 1939 to 1967 helping the body grow from under 5 000 to over 70 000 members and served 17 years on the AFBF board. He was hailed for advancing farm to market roads loans for wheat and was named Man of the Year in Texas Agriculture in 1954. He is survived by one daughter and two grandsons. His wife died in 1954. Services were held in Abilene Monday.

Wood County Electric Coop will mail 85 069 in member dividends to 8 596 users Friday December 1. The 11th consecutive 100 percent dividend per board approval, representing 10 percent of year’s payments with five percent for large commercial users. This year’s total rises from 75 004 last year, dividends to members exceed half a million dollars over 11 years. Checks expected to reach members this weekend.

G R Lambert Injured In Two Car Crash Near Quitman
G R Lambert sustained facial cuts and underwent surgery after a two car collision near Quitman on Tuesday. He was treated at Medical Center Hospital in Tyler and listed in fair condition. The Northbound car driven by Lambert collided with C G Cornelius's vehicle traveling west on FM 2088 around 9:45 a.m. Texas Highway Patrol details.
