Seven Grand Saline High School students were treated for injuries at Corby-Germany Hospital after a car driven by Perry Nolan Davis overturned between the high school and the cafeteria during the noon hour.
A group of local pastors met at the First Methodist Church to form The Grand Saline Ministerial Alliance. Officers elected were Floyd Akin president W Gibbs vice president and Howard Conatser secretary treasurer The alliance will meet monthly at 8 am for the next three months at the Methodist Church chapel. The group aims to promote work of all churches in Grand Saline and a $35.85 Thanksgiving offering will support alliance activities. Also reported was a two vehicle crash on Wolf and Spring streets injuring several Grand Saline High School students with three hospitalized.
Mrs Beckwell is seriously ill after surgery and undergoing blood transfusions. Her husband George Beckwell asks potential donors to contact the W. E. Stewart Blood Bank in Tyler at once.
Grand Saline's Indians earned six spots on the All District 12-AA team after a three way tie for third. Glynn Cunniff and James Kuykendall earned first and second team honors, with four others receiving honorable mention. The story also notes Thanksgiving misadventure for Br. Lovvorn ending with red beans.
A revival at the Nazarene Church of Grand Saline continues through next Sunday night. Evangelist Dr. Paul Garrett of Dallas leads nightly services at 7:00 with daytime sessions at 9:30 starting Wednesday. Topics include The Glory of Being a Christian The Double Cure The Devil's De tours Saved to Completeness and The Last Invitation. Pastor Rev. Floyd Akin invites the public.
A short AP inspired tale follows Red Flowers installer R. E. Flowers in a new shop, with five year old Jane Goins reacting when a buyer proves eager for the blooms. Willis Roberson’s absence from the shop is noted as he travels to Tyler to buy red flowers.
The Elementary PTA invites parents to a Thursday December 13 night meeting to view children including Susies and Jimmys perform. The program begins at 7 30 PM to ensure punctual attendance and avoid missed parts.
The 1957 senior class stages an adaptation of Father Knows Best at the elementary school auditorium on Monday night December 10 at 7 30. Cast includes Virginia Tunnell Mona By y Betty Jane Fail Larry Smith Movita Carnutt Ramona Earle Persons Patty and others. Tickets are 50 cents for adults 25 cents for students.
N W McNorton retired December 1 from Morton Salt Company after 26 years service. He began at the mine during shaft construction and served 24 years as foreman. He spent 18 years underground and six years on top, with salaried employees presenting him a jacket as thanks for his years of service.
Lorena Gary was brought to work at Westward Ho Cafe by her husband who stopped for a haircut and groceries. Upon return home the house had burned to the ground with only the clothes they wore saved. Neighbors offered condolences as the couple faced a total loss.
Mickie Sharp, Mike Rodden, Coy Anderson and Freddie Dickerson arrived from Groveton last week with an eight point buck mounted on their car hood. Two bullet holes in the hide leave the shooter uncertain. The group plans to eat venison this week.
Rehearsal started Sunday night at the First Methodist Church for a dramatization of the Christmas Story. The presentation is set for Sunday night December 16 with Mary and Joseph played by Galloway and Mary Beth Darby. Wise men are E. P. Friedline Walton Bryant and Faye Fowler. Shepherds are Owen Kuykendall Harold Davis and Jack Craddock. Narrator is Sue Gibbs. Choirs are led by Mrs. Lessie Davis for the Senior Choir Mrs. Billy Davis for the Cherub choir and Mrs. Howard Miller for the Junkos with Young People department members joining the dault choir. Costume advisor is Mrs. Elizabeth Marett stage properties by Quince Freeman and Clarence Moore background greenery by Mrs. Faynell Fowler.
Three men under M R Barker at the Morton Salt Mine cut a 36 by 36 by 42 inch cube from solid rock. Weighing two tons, the block was shipped by motor freight to Balcones Laboratory at Texas University in Austin for Dr Earnest Gloyna to test using a salt dome for radioactive material disposal. Workers were Snede Alexander Red McNorton and Wiley Joslin.
The Jim Barrons travel to Pasadena to watch their son Jimmy Barron play for Arlington Rebels against a Compton Calif. team in the Junior Rose Bowl. Jimmy began his football career in Grand Saline under Coach Clay and may gain local notice if the game is broadcast.
The High School PTA plans a December 17 football banquet with Dutch Meyer as speaker. Tickets go on sale this week at 1.50 for adults and 1.00 for students and all fans may attend. Cheerleaders assisting with ticket sales include Shirley Whatley and others.
A musical is scheduled at Fruitvale on Saturday night December 8. All musicians are invited to participate.
The Skeet Gibson Motor Company was burglarized Friday night, marking a second break in three months. Entry came through a north side window, with a prior west side entry. thieves took 29.95 in this incident and 35 in the previous one, with the cash register damaged previously but not this time.
The editor names Mrs L A Smith as the week’s best sport for turning in a newspaper article for The Sun. She accepted the task with good humor and earned a special bow for her effort and reportage.
Paradise Valley greetings follow Uncle Merdy Mallory’s name for the Grand Saline street. The Grand Saline Industrial Foundation seeks 18000 in pledges to fund a fiberglass plant building about 48 by 220 feet costing around 20000, with Southwestern Mobile Homes covering the rest. W. L. Garland Jr reports 11000 pledged, leaving 7000 short, and says pledges are repaid over seven years as an investment in Grand Saline’s growth. A luncheon featuring chicken and dressing drew cheers, as residents praised the project and neighbors.
The outstanding student from Grand Saline High School will receive a Special Homemaker Award from the Grand Saline Study Club on 1 April. Mrs. Marion Quinn American Home Chairman sponsors the contest with Miss Esther Hopkins homemaking teacher.

The Grand Saline Lions met at the Ranch Motel for a family style meal. Lion John A. Nelson announced the annual Christmas party with ladies invited. A Dollar Christmas Tree will collect dollar gifts to benefit a local cause.
Odie Knight traveled to Galveston for a medical check up at John Sealey Hospital and will remain there several days. Lions sponsor a worthy community project. Lion Wallace Ward introduced Vernon Moore who brought speaker C R Lesser of Morton Salt Company. Lesser’s salt industry talk will run in Grand Saline Sun.
Eleven Grand Saline girls plan to enter a twirling contest in Paris Texas on Saturday They include Sara Barber Karen Bufka Glenda Carter Annette Kirby Jean Lee Glenda Nell Lewis Luellen Persons Gail Bennett Betty Jane Fail Mary Earl Persons and Ann Stone The Grand Saline delegation will compete against East Texas participants with events all day and they are slated to appear at 10 o clock.
Mrs David Jones announced on Friday that she has finished all her Christmas shopping. She noted only 14 shopping days remain and implied she has not yet bought a handkerchief.
