Mayor W L Garland and the city council will destroy any vicious dog not leashed or penned and any dog lacking the annual rabies shot. Police Chief Pat Heddin says enforcement includes all dogs six months and older, with a push to protect children as school starts in September.

Slaughter cows high on Friday Aug 16 with 915 cattle and 171 hogs sold to 84 buyers including butcher and packer firms. Prices ranged from 17 to 19.60 for fat cows, 25 to 30 for stocker calves and 22 to 25 for stocker yearlings, with stocker cows at 165 per head and cows and calves from 140 to 235.
Arthur deducted a West trip to visit his ailing Aunt Jane as a charitable contribution. The court ruled the visit was not charity under income tax laws. Deduction requires a public benefit from the contribution rather than a personal or speculative gesture.
