Fifty years since V J Day marked by memories across Grand Saline

Fifty years after Japan's surrender to Allied forces on August 14, 1945, residents of Grand Saline recall where they were and what they felt when World War II ended. Local veterans and families recount reactions to the bombings, the invasion prospects, and the sense of a new beginning as peace arrived, with personal notes from Marvin Peel, Lovie Joy Peel, Bill Thomas, Cornelia Tally, and others. V-J Day was publicly acclaimed on September 2, 1945, aboard the Missouri surrender.
