Corinth church and cemetery mark vanished community relics
The Corinth Baptist Church and its cemetery survive as remnants of a once thriving settlement south of Grand Saline. Settled in the 1880s Corinth housed a mill blacksmith shop doctor’s office sawmill store and a school with a post office from 1888 to 1906. The church traces to a log schoolhouse used by Baptists later rebuilt, with notable figures including Rev. Thomas McAdams Post who mentored many area churches and was Wiley Post’s grandfather. The cemetery holds Civil War veterans and graves dating to 1874, with land donations from several families and three historical markers documenting the site and aviator Wiley Post.
