County judge proposes budget to boost staffing and pay
Van Zandt County Judge Richard Lawrence unveiled a conservative budget plan for the new fiscal year promising no tax increase. It calls for hiring nine sheriff's deputies, a 10 percent deputy raise, 540000 for improved firefighter communications, and 20000 to boost EMS units. Countywide 5 percent raises would be allotted to most staff if approved, with department heads holding discretion on disbursement. Sheriff Bill Dean is exempt due to a prior negotiation.
