Grand Saline Indian Band Practice To Start August 10
The Grand Saline Indian Band begins its new season Monday August 10 with core rehearsal at 10 am in the high school band hall. Sixty total players will form the band, including 40 returning members and 20 newcomers from junior high and transfers. Several seniors who graduated last spring are missed. drum major J Lynn Carter studies clarinet with Professor Roddy Hull at ETSU. junior high majorettes led by Jan Rash and others attended twirling schools and band camps in July.

Willis Jernigan To Conduct Cross Roads Gospel Meeting
Willis Jernigan will lead the Cross Roads Church of Christ gospel meeting at Cross Roads Church in Lytle Texas from Monday night August 10 to Tuesday night August 18 with daily services at 8 pm and Sunday at 11 am. This will be his 32nd gospel meeting and he is in his eighth year with the church. He began preaching in 1914 at the Nashville Bible School now Lipscomb College and studied at Middle Tennessee State University and Trousdale Training School. He has preached and done local work in Arkansas Alabama California Colorado Florida Georgia Kentucky Oklahoma Tennessee Texas and Missouri. His first gospel meeting with Cross Roads was October 1938 and he has returned every year except 1941.

Two Men Arrested for Wire Theft in Van Zandt County
Sheriff RB Ward reports two men arrested for copper wire theft from the REA Cooperative as wire cuts increase in the area. The suspects, Ernestine Smith and James Burns, both from Paris, were captured after REA workers from Kaufman County spotted them and provided the license plate of a 1967 Thunderbird. Burns has a hold from the Army for desertion.
