Expressman Robbed and a Roosevelt Suit Debate
A Wells Fargo Express agent, J. N. Bennett, was robbed of about 170 dollars after a late evening walk and bowling. Later disclosures cast doubt on the initial tale, suggesting a cash shortage rather than a genuine holdup. Also covered are public notices on Roosevelt’s case reception, drainage district opposition, and local marriages.

Stump Clearing Machine by Hand Power Demonstrated
An article from Marshfield Times describes N Wipperman’s stump pulling machine tested at Wend County farm in northern Wisconsin. It uses hand power for small stumps and a small gasoline engine for larger ones. A dynamite charge is used to separate very large root systems. The device, about the size of a corn shredder, sits on an iron truck and can operate without horses on rough land, powered by a windlass and blocks capable of fifteen tons pull. The inventor plans to supply the machine to Wisconsin land agents and offer a free unit with every quarter section purchase.
