A bomb exploded at Aberdeen Maryland Army proving grounds killing two enlisted men and injuring three officers and nine other soldiers. The blast occurred after a bomb fell from a plane during loading or testing operations on May 31 in Washington.
A board of inquiry appointed by Major Scanlon toured the wreck site at Bolling Field and heard witnesses about the Cur-Engle ambulance airplane disaster near Morgantown Maryland. The plane, returning from Langley Field Virginia, crashed during a severe electrical storm killing seven men. The wreckage was so mangled it may yield no cause and was ordered burned as unsanitary.
Four soldiers were killed, two mortally wounded and 12 others slightly injured when their group marching from Youghal barracks to the rifle range was attacked at 8 am. The road near the golf links was mined and bombs used as intense fire opened. A curate driving to celebrate Mass was wounded along with his driver.
May 31. For the first time two women join the North Dakota Board of Pardons under Governor Frasier’s appointments. Mim Ward of Bismarck and Mixco Clifford of Minot replace Rosetta Stroch of Grand Forks and B.C. Sir of Gerrisen on the board. The governor also names two male members to complete the nine member body.

Fire damaged the Pembina Light and Power company plant on May 31, causing about 1500 dollars in losses. Ken noticed flames attacking the roof but the fire department contained them, allowing quick recovery. The plant, valued at 115000 dollars, serves Neche Bathgate St Vincent and Pembina and stored thousands of gallons of gasoline behind the main building. It uses two gas engines and is expected to be back in operation within a few days.
Chicago May 31 Wheat for delivery rose sharply as shorts covered late in the month. May futures topped at 1.86 a bushel, a gain of 1 1/2 cents, with May delivery ending near the peak while other months showed modest gains amid heavy grain arrivals totaling about 2,400 carloads.
Moorhead Minnesota May 41 a safe in Standard Official information was blown and burglars escaped with 600 dollars. Officials say the amount stolen is not yet available as details remain unclear.

A man about 35 was found dead in Band Creek bushes one mile west of Williston North Dakota. He wore a blue sergeant, two pants, three underwear sets and two shirts. A box of wheat treated with gopher poison, a pocket knife, a gold watch, twenty one dollars, receipts and a Canadian army exemption card bearing the name Louis Dolver and address Doreille Alberta were found. wrists and throat showed gashes. The body decomposed, disinfected, and to be moved to Willis ton undertaking rooms Tuesday. Police left scene pending coroner. Whether suicide or foul play remains undetermined.
In Oberglogaya Upper Silesia on May 21 General von Hoefer says German defense groups will disarm and disband once an inter Allied authority is reestablished. He credits these forces with maintaining order and says they should be thanked, but they must be kept under arms no longer than necessary. He notes ongoing contact with British control officers and influence with Allied officials.

On Monday Rev Fr Donald united John Kennedy of Lawton and Mrs Crowley of Inkster, and Mr Rodheimer of Dahlen township with Mies McCarthy of Petersburg in a Catholic ceremony.
Madison May 31 Gov Blaine was asked by Brown county sheriff to dispatch troops to Green Bay to quell disturbances said to stem from a strike at three paper mills. One man was dying after a fight at Northern Paper Mills. D A Youngs says the situation is serious and that Governor Blaine will decide on state action. Albany May 31 arbitration talks begin among ten paper manufacturers and union delegates to end a strike affecting about 40 000 workers in the U S Canada and Newfoundland.
Washington on May 31, a senate vote of 35 to 20 defeated an effort to cut 15 million dollars from the 90 million dollar naval appropriation. Ten Republicans and ten Democrats backed reductions while seven Democrats joined Republicans to support the committee recommendation to maintain the naval building program.
Woodland Washington May 31 flood breach damages crops and farm property estimated between 300000 and 500000. A 12000 acre reclaimed area dike failed under Columbia River pressure. About 500 families evacuated as floodwaters spread after a culvert rupture on the Northern Pacific line. The town and railroad tracks on higher ground were spared. The dike, completed this year at a cost of 100000. Dr Alex Laes secretary of the campaign died.
The English Lutheran Synod of the Northwest opened its first convention at St Mark's Lutheran Church with a large delegate turnout. President G K Aubrecht outlined aggressive English work, future buildings costs, and plans for an orphan's home and an English Lutheran seminary in the Dakotas as the synod considers relocating the institution and expanding educational outreach.
Lowtevilla Kentucky May 21 Members of the Louisville American Association club were en route from Indianapolis on the Dixie Plyer when the wreck occurred last night. Telegrams received early today from team members say none were injured. The team is not scheduled to play today.
