British abandon hope for Hawker and Grieve in cross Atlantic flight

N F May 21 reports British flyers lose hope for the safety of Harry G. Hawker and Commander Mackenzie Grieve who vanished after taking off eastward in a biplane for Ireland. The NC-3 is cited as a safer craft with a real hull, while Hawker Grieve’s craft carried only a cockle shell emergency boat.

Thirty five auditors attend Minot meeting opening session

May 21 Minot North Dakota Thirty five auditors from North Dakota gathered in Minot for the County Auditors association meeting. B A Long welcomed the visitors and F F Vaughn of Cando presided. The day focused on business with a banquet planned at the Leland hotel. George Wallace of the state tax commission will discuss duties under the new tax law followed by a question session.

House Passes Amendment for Suffrage Victory

Washington May 21 The woman constitution amendment resolution passed the house after about three hours by 304 to 88 with 42 more than two thirds. Supporters plan to urge speedy senate action and final enactment within two weeks was predicted by suffrage leaders.

Navy NC4 Seaplane Flight To Lisbon Delayed By Engine Trouble

St Paul Labor Strike In Symp at 8 A M Across Trades

St Paul Minnesota May 21 1920 union men estimated at 6 000 to 8 000 quit work at eight in the morning in solidarity with common laborers demanding fifty cents an hour ten cent raise and a nine hour day, across steamfitters plumbers hoisting engineers electrical workers plasterers cement finishers bricklayers tilers painters sprinkler fitters and several iron workers. Builders would not recognize the common laborers union and the strike was not accepted as binding by the building trades.
