Washington May 2 Preliminary organization of the United States naval reserve officers association has been effected by about two hundred officers on duty in Washington. Officers and directors will be elected next week and efforts aim to enroll all of the 27 000 reserve officers in service during the war. Newly commissioned reserve officers will also be eligible for membership.
Reading Pa May 2 six hundred of the 2400 Carpenter Steel company employees were discharged after failing to appear for work on May day. They had joined a May day parade, expecting management to not enforce the order to be on duty.
Telephone operators in Madrid have returned to work after a strike. Telegraphers who were arrested during the strike have been released and the authorities report resumed operations in the city.
