London reports testimony in the Mia. Alice Wheeldon trial at Old Bailey. She admitted hoping the premier Lloyd George and Mr. Henderson would soon die, but said she did not wish to cause anyone’s death. General Maurice predicted German retirement on the Somme and British arrival before Bagdad, with cavalry close to the city and Persian territory being traversed.
Washington reports the American Federation of Labor executive council met to discuss next steps by union members in response to national defense needs. Several hundred local unions and four railroad brotherhoods affiliated with the federation are expected at a Monday meeting to consider proposed plans, with Samuel Gompers likely to offer input from his advisory role with the National Council of Defense.

Berlin reports that American and neutral sailors aboard the British steamer Yarrowdale left Germany on Wednesday. Prisoners from the Yarrowdale were sent toward Linden and returned home via routes through Linden and Wadmondsy. The dispatch notes other detainees were released through nearby towns as a quarantine measure proceeded.
President Wilson summoned Congress to meet on April 16 and ordered the Navy to arm merchant vessels at once to sail immediately. Proclamation issued at the White House amid claims ships will be armed for service in the submarine zone. Names of armed ships to remain confidential.
Eleven year old Joe Vinardi freed by coroner's jury after verdict of self defense in a deadly family feud. The youth followed his father’s instruction to seek vengeance and shot Mike Gillo as he faced him at his home. Gillo was later found dead.

A burglary captured a 13 year old boy, son of A. P. Nichols, and held him hostage in his home. The burglars later demanded ransom, collecting about $13,000 in money and jewelry after abducting the boy and awaiting the parents’ return. The capture and ransom were executed by the suspects who fled with the loot.
Reports say no fighting in the city or suburbs up to midnight last night. Commander Belknap, in charge of the U S squadron at Santiago harbor, landed naval forces at the governor's request to prevent loss of foreign lives and destruction of foreign property amid an anticipated rebel attack.
