Washington June 12 The steamer Petrolite once a German vessel later under American registry was sunk by a German submarine. Consular reports say 18 men were landed two boats with names missing and another two missing. The attack follows a string of diplomatic notes between the United States and Austria over wartime shipping. Petrolite was built in 1908 in Bremerhaven and formerly named Excelator before transfer to the Standard Oil fleet.
