Washington reports that 24 074 registrants with grammar school education from 36 states will be sent to special training schools. The call was issued today by Provost Marshal General Crowder as a nationwide plan to place these men into specialized Army programs.
Second Lieutenant Lynn H Herriman of the American infantry received the Distinguished Service Cross for gallantry in action near relief duty. He directed his platoon with calm courage as enemy forces overwhelmed his unit, was twice wounded yet remained in the fight, halting the enemy inside a trench and driving them back with his leadership and resolve.
