Waattington February 2 Rural mail carriers are resigning at fifty a day. W D Brown of the National Rural Mail Carriers association told the senate postal committee the service faces serious difficulties without financial relief. He urged a permanent ~60 percent base pay raise from 1200 to 1920 dollars with about 78 million dollars yearly extra expense. Brown said carriers earn less than farm laborers. Chairman Townsend cautioned congress may delay the increase until reclassification committees report.
