A Birmingham dispatch to the St Louis Globe-Democrat relates that Charles Kirby, 10, was left in the Union Depot after his father J M Kirby of Young County Texas seized the boy's hat and ticket and disappeared following a crosscountry stop. The boy, barefoot and penniless, recalls a tale of an attempt to reach Orange County Florida to buy land. Col J M Kirby, longtime resident of South Bend, is described as mentally unwell with fits of insanity after a prior horse accident.

Bee Williams was released from custody in Sherman last Friday on ten thousand dollar bail after seeking habeas corpus, claiming life endangerment from continued imprisonment due to a chronic illness. He returned home in poor health, hospitalized by confinement, while Captain A C Markley of Fort Thomas Arizona sent ten dollars to the school fund, bringing total pledges to about thirty five hundred dollars and hopeful to five thousand, aiming to raise ten thousand for a new school building.
