A severe hail storm near Loving lasted four minutes around 5 pm causing extensive damage. The storm swept east to west, crippling crops including cotton and orchards, destroying many buildings and breaking most south facing school windows.
Henry McCallister of Miller Bend and Miss Lena Gowen of Tank Valley were married last Sunday afternoon at the Gowens’ home with Rev. A. C. Ferguson officiating. The couple plan to reside in Wheelers county after short honeymoon and are praised by their communities.
Wallace Sloan came back from Dallas with news as W C Pugh traveled from Breckenridge to Graham on Wednesday to sell cotton. Frank Forbes and Ashley Scott joined the Jacksboro Carnival last Thursday amid community gatherings.
At 1 30 o clock last Sunday afternoon Ernest F Strube and Miss Mary Ellen Finch were married at the Finch home. Rev C R Taylor officiated with only immediate family present. The bride will be missed in Graham where she has taught in the Baptist Sunday school and worked with the youth. The groom works as a traveling salesman for Louisiana Longleaf Lumber Co and is highly regarded. The couple left for Mineral Wells then San Antonio Houston and Galveston before returning to Fort Worth to live.
Ernest Stovall marries Miss Bessie Jiant in Jacksboro last Sunday evening. The couple returns to Graham in Stovall’s automobile after the ceremony. The bride is daughter of Mr and Mrs W M Jiant and is listed as a beau tiful popular young lady. The groom is brother to E C Stovall with many friends, and well wishes are extended for a long, happy life.
John Beal Sneed was granted $20,000 bail by the Court of Criminal Appeals in Austin after a lengthy Fort Worth legal effort following the September 14 killing of Al G. Boyce Jr. in Amarillo. Judge Davidson and Associate Judge Harper agreed with the bail. Judge Prendergast dissented, proposing $35,000 bail instead.

Judge C W Johnson Republican candidate for Texas governor will address the public at the court house next Monday night at 8 oclock. Everyone is invited to attend this speaking. He is to deliver an address in Houston this evening but will arrive home Saturday or Sunday night.
W. A. Ribble brought five sweet potatoes from a single hill east of the city. All are large with one extra large specimen. They were grown without irrigation, illustrating the country’s potential in a favorable season.
J M Parker of Graham reported to the city detective department that a stranger on Twelfth and Houston streets last night robbed him of 65 dollars during a conversation. The incident occurred in Fort Worth Texas on October 26.
The southbound Katy Limited was halted at Wirth four miles south of Eufaula and an American Express express car was robbed by three unmasked men at 2 30 this morning. The bandits escaped on horseback with an estimated haul of 7500 to 30000 dollars. No passengers or mail cars were molested. They drenched a trestle with oil and set the bridge on fire after the train passed, causing a brief delay. The robbery was planned and executed without incident.
In Sevenlo Oregon this morning Sisters of Charity perished saving eighty six orphans at St John’s Orphanage. Mother Mary of the Cross appeared at a high window with a baby as firemen attempted rescue. The floor gave way and both woman and child were buried in the burning building.
R W J Parsons brought a bottle of bugs from his cottonfield east of town claiming they are boll weevils. The small sluggish insects with long bills differ from known varieties. They appear too late to do much damage this season, but farmers should destroy eggs this winter.
I. V. Freeman of Mount Pleasant says he will not sow wheat this year and plans to plant oats instead. He notes oats may be a better proposition now, as the mule buyer eyes the team and cot ton sales occur here Tuesday.
