Mint Receives Large Batch of Abolished Three Cent Pieces
The United States Mint in this city has received over two tons of three cent silver pieces retired from circulation by act of Congress. More than ten tons have already been redeemed and sent from sub treasuries. The coins will be recoined into ten cent pieces as the three cent nickels replace the old silver three cent coins. The Treasury is redeeming small coins rapidly and expects their disappearance in a few years, leaving nickels as the only circulating small denomination. These pieces have worn down, some by as much as a quarter of their intrinsic value.

In trials on City Point to Long Island trips, the sixty horsepower vessel slowed within ten feet, then reversed to steer away. The fins open on signal, water cushions the stop, and no damage occurs to the ship.
