Work began last week on a new twenty two mile railway from Hegrietta in Clay county to Goose Lake in Archer county with plans to extend toward Abilene in Taylor county. Promoters may pass through Young county, target coal deposits near Salt creek and Crystal Falls, and a south route via West fork could revive the Clear Fork valley irrigation project at Barstow. Such a line would bring improved railway facilities to Young county and spur regional development.
The time nears for the waterworks bond election and opposition remains quiet. The paper argues municipal ownership saves insurance costs, reduces fire risk, and prevents a private franchise, urging residents to vote the bonds.
J. B. Norris announces plans to reconstruct the damaged portion of Norris Lake dam. He says the new structure will be more substantial than the previous one, following the failure last week.
Notice of a called meeting of the County Union of Young County to be held in Graham on Saturday June 8. It is desired that all local unions be represented. J P Hypen President Young Co Union.
The Oil Mill Lumber is beginning to arrive for the Brazos Oil and Light Co. A car is on the side track and two others are en route. Mr. Mettenheimer will arrive about the first of next week and the Oil Mill will be pushed to completion.
Last Saturday several Texas towns faced destructive cyclones. In Van Zandt County’s Wills Point a cyclone killed three people, fatally injuring a fourth and injuring over a dozen others. Property damage was extensive with many structures destroyed. Other Texas locations reported similar cyclone damage and losses.
The Baptists of Graham will begin their protracted meeting under the big tent the first Sunday in July. All are cordially invited to attend.
Mrs Ida Saxton McKinley widow of President McKinley died in Canton Ohio Sunday afternoon at age sixty. She was much esteemed and had long been an invalid. Among her last words were Why should I linger Please God if it be Thy will why defer it.
Sunday schools of Fish Creek plan their annual picnic on June 15 at Price crossing. Bring boxes and baskets and join in a day of community fun along Fish Creek.
