Dr W T Rouse of the First Baptist Church in Graham accepts the pastorate, following two Sundays of powerful sermons. He holds a ThD from Southwestern Theological Seminary, has Brazil mission experience, twelve years as a pastor, and will begin duties June 1. A series of meetings starts June 3, inviting all Christian people to cooperate for Graham’s good.
On Friday night May 20 Graham High School pupils present the temperance play The Turn of the Tide. Proceeds go to the school board for community education. Willie Padgett appears in a notable role with admittance 25 cents and reserved seats 35 cents.
Good rains fell across Old Young County improving ground moisture and stock water. Wheat suffered some loss from late showers but oats should yield well and corn looks ready for a bumper crop. Cotton remains stressed by cool dry weather but new sun could boost growth. overall crop prospects are the brightest in years.
The census enumerator for the Graham district is busy taking the scholastic census and aims to enroll every child. If your children are not enrolled by May 25, notify Edgar McLendon to ensure missing students are added to the roll.
Community members are asked to gather Wednesday evening at the church to join the revival singing session led by the choir leader. The pastor will preach Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 5 15.
Despite threatening weather, church services drew strong crowds last Sunday. Rev Rouse preached at the Baptist Church and accepted the call to be pastor. Other pastors led morning and evening services, with Rev Francis at the Methodist Church. Young people’s meetings show growing interest.
The Woodmen of the World announce a June 10 picnic at the reunion grounds in Eliasville. Bids to run one cold drink stand are due by June 1. Candidates are invited, and all are urged to bring baskets.
Friday night May 27 marks the start of a long meeting at the Methodist Church in town. It is hoped the event draws strong interest and becomes a success with everyone invited to attend.
Beginning next Friday night a ten day revival will be held at the Methodist Church led by Rev M S Hotchkiss with Rev Frank E Singleton as pastor and a popular singer. Preparatory services Wednesday and Thursday will feature the singer and preaching. Also in Graham a Commercial Club committee reports a Munster creamery study shows the venture paying, urging local farmers to buy stock. Hon Cone Johnson of Tyler will speak at the Court House next Monday at 1 oclock.
A lengthy gathering is planned to begin Friday night at the Methodist Church, with the event scheduled for May 27. Attendees are urged to participate in the community religious observance.
Town officials urge all residents to report overlooked individuals to C. W. Johnson to ensure accurate census counts. Citizens with absent or uncounted people are asked to report them promptly as the deadline nears.
Hon Cone Johnson, candidate for Governor, will arrive Sunday night and stay Monday morning at Mountainside Hotel. He will speak at the court house at 1 PM, rain or shine, inviting friends and admirers to attend. Johnson’s Jacksboro engagement Monday night is canceled due to other dates. Rock Island offers excursion rates to Graham.
