A B Medlan Deceased His Long Young County Life

Archibald B Medlan moved to Young county before organization and served as County Treasurer and Commissioner when Belknap was the county seat. A lifelong friend of John Dixon, Medlan pressed for Dixon to be elected Treasurer, campaigned across the county, and Dixon won by a large margin while Medlan remained out of party politics. Medlan survived a wild horse incident, helped recover cattle during a roundup, aided a minister with clothing, attended baptist associations, and supported preachers financially. He guarded against stock theft from Indians, weathered the 1886 87 drought as the county’s sole corn producer, and hosted many visitors with abundant hospitality. An unwavering Democrat, he despised drunkenness, laziness, and dishonesty.
