Drillers at the Arnold well report a gas vein rising about sixty feet above the water into Sugar Hollow and running toward the Brazos river. The hole is around a thousand feet deep with indications of oil. work continues in sand rock and shale as hope remains high for oil by month end.
Mrs W J Crabb entertained about one hundred Stamford friends Saturday afternoon at her East Oliver street home to meet Mrs J F H Crabb nee Miss Bess Graham of Graham Texas. The event celebrated the Feb 22 wedding of Prof J F H Crabb to his bride.
District Court opened Monday under Judge P. A. Martin with county attorney Fred Arnold and district clerk J. L. Vaughan present. Several divorce and foreclosure cases were decided for plaintiffs, the grand jury was empaneled, and the petit jury was summoned for the third week. Guests praised Mrs. Crabb as a charming hostess at a recent entertainment.
The notice announces Joe T. Carter as a candidate for Public Weigher in Precinct 1, backed by the democratic party. It praises him as ambitious, honest, capable, and well known in Graham, noting his two years residency and courteous demeanor. It urges residents and neighboring voters to consider his claims before voting.
The town corrected an earlier report on meningitis saying the notice was given at 10 o'clock Thursday night and on Friday morning schools were ordered closed and every home disinfected. Health officer Dr Williamson led the prompt action to ensure real measures were taken.
The notice proclaims Hon. J. E Simpson as a candidate for representative of the 99th district with an announcement next week. It extols his qualifications as a leading attorney and respected local figure capable of credit to his home county.
W M Hale of Sout Bend reported the Baptist Church at the Bend organized a Sunday school with twenty one members. J L Smith was elected Superintendent and Miss Bettie Dawson secretary. Most members are young people. the group may reach fifty or sixty with older members joining. They plan to print a minute book for records. Mrs H P Rose returned Monday night from Galveston with her mother who had an operation.
Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Babb arrived from Marlin Texas and will reside here with their son W. F. Babb and his family. The note also corrects a previous error about the Arnold well depth, clarifying it was one thousand feet, not two thousand.
A J Baker died last Sunday at his daughter Mrs E McReynolds home in the Murray area. He was among the oldest Huffstuttle settlers and county commissioner for years. He leaves two children Mrs E McReynolds and Dan Baker. Ed Arnold reached El Paso safely from Old Mexico. he may return home. W C Ratliff arrived from Quanah for a few days here. Laura Fisher visited from Farmer with family.
