Postmaster Cunningham receives a two hundred dollar raise in salary after July 1. His report for the year ending March 31, 1909 shows over eight thousand dollars in business, excluding money orders, a gain of about two thousand nine dollars over the prior year. The growing post office business signals substantial town growth.
At the city ball park last Monday afternoon Olney defeated Bryson 12 to 2. A large crowd saw the game as Olney pulled ahead with seven runs in the fourth inning. Bryson erred multiple times as Olney’s offense surged.
Pratt was sentenced to thirty five years in the penitentiary after a district court trial at Abilene for the shooting at his farm near Ridge. He faced $1000 bail in a prior mining case, was rearrested and jailed at Breckenridge starting March 90, four days after the killing. The Rock Island started a double train service on the Graham branch with the noon train soon handling most Graham mail. The Dallas Daily papers arrived yesterday, and Dallas Fort Worth morning papers will arrive on the noon train after today. Semi weekly papers will reach Graham a day earlier, likely shifting star routes to depart around two in the afternoon. The change benefits Graham and the surrounding area and is well received locally.
West Side meets North Side at Ball Park tonight at 8 30 as stories and fans build around the regional showdown. Local spectators expect a tight contest with city bragging rights at stake and a charged atmosphere.
The Presbyterian Sunday School held a splendid picnic last Friday about two miles from town on J. B Norris’s pretty grounds. Attendees enjoyed swings tennis baseball and other games for a merry afternoon.
Tomorrow evening at 3 30 o'clock a baseball game between the north side business men nine and the west side business men nine will be played at the Ball Park for the Priscilla Club and Court House park funds. The contest promises unusual plays and many scores, with attendees urged to bring friends.
