Reports say Mrs J W Taliaferro, matron, lost clothing and household goods in Ardmore Oklahoma orphanage fire. Her husband J W Taliaferro, an undertaker, died bathing in Salt Creek during an overflow. Daughter Dora Willie away visiting. Goods had been shipped by freight and were lost in the blaze following a gasoline car explosion.
Eliasville hosts a revival led by Rev. J. R. Reynolds from the city. The meetings are growing in interest nightly, drawing large surrounding-area attendance as Baptist church members are added and the denomination strengthens through powerful sermons.
In a letter from Long Beach California Miss Elizabeth LeGrande reports her mother aged relative fell July 3 suffering a serious fracture of the left shoulder during a seaside stroll. Mother and daughter spend the summer at the Southern California resort.
Ralph Shuffler issued an extra edition of the Olney Enterprise last Friday covering the army draft in Young County It lists the names drawn for service from the Washington numbers and was distributed free to Enterprise subscribers The four page issue is described as well produced and newsworthy reflecting Shuffler’s alertness to deliver timely reporting to Olney readers
A parrot mascot of the battleship New York was trained to cry slacker when its tail is pulled. A petty officer carried the bird on Fifth Avenue as men of military age were prompted to enlist by the crowd shouting the cry.
Rev J W Newsom pastor of the Breckenridge Baptist church conducts a revival at Bunger with strong local interest. The meeting began Monday night and has already seen one conversion yesterday morning. Assistants include T B Satterwhite of Caddo leading the singing.
Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Arnold Jr. of Miller Bend were in town for a Sunday visit returning to their home after time with friends and neighbors.
Throckmorton County men drafted will be entertained with a picnic and barbecue on August 15 as a patriotic demonstration. All funds raised on the grounds will go to the Red Cross with refreshments novelties games and sports planned. Prominent speakers will give addresses.
Official quotas from Austin assign Young County 105 men for the national army. The higher figure replaces an earlier 77 estimate and reflects expected enlistments since June 30, totaling about fifteen to twenty credits toward the quota.
Albert Taylor and his company appeared at the Graham opera house last Friday and Saturday to well filled houses. This first Graham visit featured light comedy, and though not at his best, Taylor is regarded as among the city's finest actors and a crowded reception awaits his next return.
Rev J L Oliver and family depart Saturday for Azle to assume the Methodist church pastorate, a position vacated by Rev Fred Chunn. Oliver had served as pastor of the mission for the past year. Rev W E Harrell of South Bend will take his place here.
A Saturday afternoon party at Rhodes Choate’s home entertained a gay crowd of little girls. Honor guests Frances and Stella Fay Roth of Corsicana received painted flag cards as they arrived. An impromptu program of songs and readings followed with many girls participating, then games and refreshments.

Street Commissioner Sam Cope completes grading and laying of South Oak Street. Residents praise the result, claiming the area now boasts the cleanest, best kept streets of its size and equal to any city.
Reports indicate the Goode place well near South Bend is down over one thousand feet with a strong gas and salt water flow. Corbett well work paused due to water shortages. In Caddo field eight rigs to be erected. Lisle place in Gooseneck Bend rig progressing. drilling to start soon. M. P. Andrews north of Graham abandoned as a dry hole. Graham and Arnold ranch drilling halted for water. a sixteen foot square water well is being dug on Arnold ranch to supply a pipe line to rigs.
Miss Mabel Miller remains seriously ill at the sanitarium. Mrs C. B. Wynn spent Monday and Tuesday in Fort Worth. Dr R. A. Duncan visited with his parents near Fort Worth. Mr and Mrs Joe Wootton returned Saturday from visiting their parents in Goree. Mrs John Pratt and her infant returned from Fort Worth Saturday and traveled home to Eliasville by automobile.
Wde Haden, seriously hurt at the Graham Mill and Elevator Co plant in Megargee last week, is progressing at the Sanitarium under a doctor and trained nurse. Early fears of losing his arm have faded, and his father Mr. Haden is encouraged by his son's likely full recovery with time.
The Presbyterian Auxiliary met at the church on Thursday at 4 p m. The group sang The Whole Wide World for Jesus and read Psalms 121 led by Mrs. Smith. The Mission topic Signs of the Times was discussed and Rev. Gary L. Smith taught the Daniel study. A short business session unanimously approved joining the local Red Cross Auxiliary.
Mr and Mrs Scarborough Mabry and Mabry’s mother Mrs Evans Mabry traveled to Dallas on a short car trip. F M Perry arrived from Clifton Arizona to join his wife and children visiting here for two weeks. The group will tour New Orleans and Alabama cities before returning home in about two weeks.
