Camp Fire Girls Enjoy Outing on Shady Clear Fork

About twenty Camp Fire Girls led by Mrs. E C Reed spent a week along the Clear Fork near Eliasville. They swam fished and camped under oaks and pecan trees, with a ceremonial in an open-air circle. Seven girls earned Wood Gatherer ranks Kathleen Criswell Nell Caldwell Gladys Fowler Ada Lee Price Eva Mae Jordan Dorothy Hudson Lois Johnson. Reverend Gary Smith spoke, praising home duties and Bible study. Gratitude was voiced to neighbors for camp support. a drenching rain ended the outing as they headed to Graham. The event, first for the group, is expected to be repeated annually.

Ladies Entertain Baptist Ball Team at Shawnee Park

Mrs. W. H. Kennedy and other Baptist Church ladies hosted a chicken dinner for the Baptist ball team at Shawnee Park last Thursday evening. The team, with their wives and lady friends, enjoyed a bountiful meal as a show of appreciation for the season’s strong play.

Dowdle Jr. Leaves for Australia From San Francisco

Mr. J. E. Dowdle Jr a medical officer at Marie Island Hospital California is on a month long leave of absence at home in San Francisco He plans to sail on submarine 8 38 around September to Sidney Australia He looks well and his Graham friends are glad his situation is pleasant.

Rickman relatives visit and busy grandmother helps

Mrs. J. G. Rickman and son of Palestine and Mrs. Byron Rickman and little daughter of Jacksonville are visiting Mrs. M. E. Short and Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Rickman. Grandma Rickman is very busy looking after the grandchildren.

Civic improvements brighten the square environment

The grass and weeds along the courtyard fence have been cut improving the square's look. City crews cleaned the exterior earlier and Mr Beach has not maintained the interior area. Officials plan further work once paving on North Elm Street begins to supply crushed rock for graveling the parking space.

Mrs A M Graham and two of Mr and Mrs HB Streets's children are reported ill with typhoid fever after a month in Galveston. Mrs Graham is advanced in years. Friends hope for a speedy recovery for her and her grandchildren.

Mrs L W Price remains critically ill in Fort Worth after an operation more than a month ago. Friends express hope for her improvement as she receives care at the hospital.

DIRT BROKEN FOR NEW GRAHAM HOSPITAL

Ground was broken Tuesday July 22 1924 for the Graham Hospital as R L Shepard and crew began excavating the basement. Echols Brothers of Fort Worth won the $27612 contract. The total cost will reach about $50000 with heating plumbing and lighting extra. M K Graham donated the Shawnee Addition site in an oak grove east of Plum Street. Private subscriptions fund the project with A D Stewart handling pledges and urged immediate gifts to speed completion. The hospital aims to serve the sick in the area and relieve local physicians private facilities.

Candidates on Home Stretch In Campaign

Candidates are on the home stretch for Saturday July 26. Young County speakers toured Eliasville Markley Loving Bitter Creek Padgett Orth Newcastle and nearby towns delivering speeches. Graham supporters expect a Friday July 25 visit and laboring crowds are invited, with hoarse but energetic speakers and renewed vigor after rest.

Rebekah Box Supper Planned on August 1

The Rebekah Lodge hosts a box supper on the lawn beside the I O O F Hall Friday night August 1. Proceeds from box sales will go toward the hall piano purchased earlier. All are invited, not limited to I O O F and Rebekahs members, to support the event.

Community Exhibits Promoted At Second Annual Fair

President Walker of the Young County Fair Association urges school trustees to cooperate for community exhibits. A $100 premium will go to the best exhibit, $50 to second, $25 to third, with premiums paid to school trustees. Each community gains exhibition space and committees will visit communities to encourage entries ahead of the October 7 11 fair. Donald McGregor, owner of the shows, is finalizing arrangements as livestock and farm displays are prepared.

DeMolay Band Draws Crowds At Shawnee Park Concert

Shawnee Park overflowed with attendees from across the county last Sunday as the DeMolay Band delivered an excellent performance in their uniforms. The group rehearses weekly and plans concerts every Sunday afternoon at the Park following last Thursday’s show for the Shriners.
