From Childress, reports say Will Ross was jailed on perjury charges after claiming an $800 robbery by a man on a black horse. investigators doubted the story as funds did not align with accomplices’ statements. Community voices question haste of authorities as supporters defend his honesty amid rocky leads.
On the Fourth of July a large crowd from Clear Fork South Bend Peach Creek and surrounding areas gathered by the Clear Fork to celebrate. The day featured a 66 pound fish from Jo Washburn and a plentiful fry by Bill Akers and Frank Hefner with G W Pratt and Wm Reeves handling other work. Health is good and trade lively though cash remains scarce. Sums up local life with plans for a roller mill bridge across Salt and Brazos rivers a new schoolhouse and railroad longing.
