Directors seek 20 year charter for Graham County fair
Graham chamber of commerce directors at a regular luncheon moved to form a non profit sharing corporation named the Young County Fair Association. They filed for a 20 year charter with directors M. K. Graham P. K. Deats R. V. Tidwell A. A. Morrison S. B. Street G. P. Stewart J. S. Criswell A. W. Kay E. C. Reed and J. C. Lovelace. County Agent A. L. Robertson and Miss Blanche Hart Smith attended and offered cooperation. Committees work on premium lists and about 1000 dollars in prizes will be distributed this fall. The fair is planned for November 8 9 and 10 with county schools exhibiting. The charter is expected soon and plans proceed without delay.

President Harding was forced to discontinue his speaking tour due to illness. He suffered ptomaine poisoning and bronchial pneumonia, with a grave period followed by reports the crisis has passed. Burkett to Speak at Shawnee Park August 9

Presbyterian Auxiliary Convenes In Sizzling Weather
The Auxiliary of the Presbyterian church met Thursday despite heat. Mrs. T. J. Price, new president, organized a porch program with iced lemonade. The day’s topic was The American Indian. Members received arrows noting Indian items during roll call. Mrs. Frank Wilson spoke on the Indian Presbytery, Mrs. Beavers sang Pale Moon, Marjorie Hudson performed An Indian Lodge, Mrs. Moellindick read, and Mrs. Zachary Hudson led the devotional. A free will offering of 13 dollars was collected.

John Couger Loses Barn in Ranch Fire near Graham
Mr. John Couger lost a large barn on his Gra ham area ranch to fire this week. The blaze destroyed 600 bushels of oats, 300 bushels of corn, harnesses and farming implements. He carried no insurance and cannot determine the fire’s origin. Estimated loss is $2,000.00.

Encampment Planned for County Boys and Girls Clubs
Miss Blanche Hart Smith plans a county encampment for all club youth at Shawnee Park in Graham on August 10–11. Invites extend to all associated with her work and their parents to attend. H. H. Stephens and family joined John McComas and J. W. Miller and families from Indian Mound and Hermleigh for a Shawnee Park picnic. Paving Work to Begin on City Square in Early Date
Mr. Thorban of Plains Paving Company is in town to ready the square for paving. A city council decision to pave part of the square has matured into a formal contract for hauling gravel. New Train Schedule Effective August 1
The Rock Island train arriving at 1 o'clock will switch from motor car to a mixed train starting August 1. It reaches Graham at 1 45 p m if on time and departs at 3 45 to connect with trains 23 and 24 at Bridgeport. Locals regret the change and prefer the former schedule and service.

J R Downs Dies Local Railroad Foreman at 70
J R Downs, section foreman for Wichita Falls and Southern Railroad out of Graham, died at a local sanitarium after a brief illness. Aged 70, he is survived by his wife and nine children. Funeral at his residence Monday at 7 a.m. conducted by Dr C R Taylor, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. He had lived in Graham about two years and had many friends there.
