Graham becomes an automobile center with offices and showrooms for Buick Hudson Essex Lincoln Ford Studebaker Nash Overland and Willys Knight. Local dealers Moody Brothers Morrison Morrison LeSage and others promote cars tractors and service as Graham hosts Ford Day events and new car lines.
Miss Josephine Miller of Mineral Wells has opened a voice class in Graham. Her studio is at the Christian parsonage near the square on South Elm street and she invites all interested to join. She is the daughter of S. E. Miller, editor of the Mineral Wells Index.
The new brick LeSage Motor Co. building on Graham’s square corner is nearly finished. Built by M. K. Graham for a five year lease, it houses Ford and Lincoln sales display, parts, offices, and a large shop with modern equipment and sanitation. A double drive in filling station and storage section complete the facility.
The firm advertises all Chevrolet models in stock with prompt deliveries. Courteous salesmen invite prospective buyers to visit their south side salesrooms by the square. The firm takes pride in securing the Chevrolet agency for the county and welcomes customers seeking dependable cars.
The city has finished its third dam on Salt Creek and, with two new dams, Graham's water supply more than doubles. A new settling basin will double current basin size, improving clarity after rains. Total project cost about 14000 dollars.
The Breckenridge Lions Club accepts a baseball challenge from the Graham Lions for a game in Graham on Friday. About 40 Lions and Lionesses will travel by special car leaving at 10 30 AM and returning around 6 30 PM. Lineups include Breckenridge players Tabor Smizer Raney Sandefer Pendleton Reeves Williams Hardy Daniel and Reeves. Graham lineup features Arrance Blaxton Bloodworth Warren Hammond Meyer Danniger Rhea Cole Lynch Pugh Fauntleroy and others. The two clubs seek revenge after a prior basketball defeat and invite a strong crowd.
Mrs G C Masey died at her East Graham home last night at midnight after years of feeble health. Her death was not unexpected. The Leader will publish a fuller obituary in the next issue.
Philips Petroleum Company completes four casing head absorption plants in Young county. Combined gas use will reach 16 million cubic feet daily from Herron City Oil City South Bend and Bunger plants. Workforce rises to 450 with payroll about 75 thousand dollars monthly. Outlay exceeds 70 thousand dollars for the four plants and substantial facilities underline faith in Graham and the Young county oil fields.
Graham and Young county received over four inches of rain in the past week with heavy showers on Monday and Tuesday. The official gauge near Graham recorded nearly four inches. Hail caused minor damage and injuries to Mrs. G. R. Hopper and Lon Kennedy. Roads and bridges were washed and damaged in some areas. Water supply is adequate and crops look promising for fall oats and wheat. Farmers remain optimistic about crops and garden yields.
Oil Belt Motor Company opens Graham offices and sales rooms with Shamrock Motor Company as headquarters. J C Vaughan formerly Stude baker agent. now Oil Belt holds the Graham Stude baker agency. J E Hellams and George Bryant sell cars. L G Dement heads service. Call on the south side of the square.
Plans for Ford Day on Saturday April 28 in Graham showcase more than fifty prizes for Ford and non Ford entries across numerous contests. Prizes include oldest driver oldest car most dilapidated car best decorated Ford and more. A 25 prize will honor a couple marrying on the judges stand with license and minister provided.
Preparations are under way for the Chamber of Commerce banquet to be held May 4 in the basement of the Methodist church. The program will include readings songs and speeches with music by the high school orchestra and a large feed. Local and regional speakers from Dallas Fort Worth and Wichita Falls will address the assembly.
Property owners sign to pave a twenty five foot strip by the curb. A local contractor bids reinforced concrete six inches thick at two dollars and fifty cents per square yard. Wichita Falls quotes three fifty for concrete and near three eighty four for brick based pavings, suggesting the local bid is reasonable.
The Graham high school baseball team hosts two games this week at West Graham Park. Jacksboro comes Friday afternoon and Seymour follows Saturday afternoon. Graham has not been defeated this season and aims to preserve its undefeated record against two strong opponents.
