J B Weaver of Council Bluffs Iowa argues for a broad alliance of populists Democrats and Republicans before the 1896 campaign. He envisions a four point bimetallic platform with unrestricted gold and silver coinage legal tender government paper currency and no banks of issue. Weaver predicts a nationwide movement centering in Michigan Wisconsin and the southern states if such unity forms, warning the gold power may otherwise shape events without a gun being fired.
