A local charity performance of The Stubborn Motor Car is staged next Monday night April 15 at Estes Park Colorado to benefit the Firemen's Band. The cast features Sim Page Joe Wooten Ruth Waring and others with a three act plot involving a rustler a sheriff and a Western girl. All proceeds go to fund free concert series beginning next month. Local note: a prior typographical error omitted D G Vick & Co from a merchant list and readers are asked to overlook errors while the paper corrects the record.
This week in County Court Mary S. Taylor versus G. W. Jackson et al seeks possession of a hay crop with a jury trial, the jury still out. W. F. Grubbs versus W. E. Shockley proceeds on a debt claim with trial ongoing.
On Friday April 5 Mrs. L. T. Elliott turned seventy. Her daughter Rose hosted callers from 3 to 5 pm, with Ina May Price guiding guests. Tea with sandwiches and sweets accompanied music and prayers as friends reflect on mothers’ role and celebrate recovery and longevity.
Judge R H Buck of the 48th district court in Tarrant County and Grand Chancellor of the Knights of Pythias visited our city last Saturday. He addressed the Knights and friends at the opera house, mingled with locals, and was warmly received despite bad weather reducing seating.
No new developments this week in our oil field as outsiders assess the country. Plans to drill at Spy Knob on Oliver Loving’s land and a well south of Graham proceed. Drilling outfit due by early May. The Oklahoma Oil Journal cites Graham as central to a Texas oil field. Corsicana Petroleum buys half interest in the Andrews well. Arnold well shows good indications with a 1500 foot depth in oil shale.
On April 20 a four act comedy drama Es meralda will be presented at the opera house by local talent under Miss Kuykendall. The cast is strongest yet for home entertainment with Mrs Wood directing singing and dancing specialties. Proceeds benefit the Daughters of the Confederacy and tickets should sell out early.
The Graham Baptist Ladies Missionary Society hosts an annual Miscellaneous Shower for Buckner's Orphan Home at the Jeffery residence on May 11 from 3 to 6 and 7 to 10 p.m. Reception, music, punch, and serving duties are assigned to local members.
Three year old Catharine Holland daughter of Mr and Mrs C E Holland of Holland Texas was killed by a mule shortly after noon yesterday Evans Mabry received the sad message and Mrs R E Mabry and son Seth left for the funeral which will likely be held tomorrow The cause is not confirmed but a mule is suspected This is the second girl loss for Mrs Holland formerly Miss Lou Mabry
Last Monday marked Trades Day in Graham with a large crowd and heavy merchant activity. Farmers reported excellent humor and optimism for big crops, noting the small grain crop is exceptionally fine and should mature with little additional rain.
Mrs W S Sampley wife of the express messenger on the Rock Island from this city to Bridgeport died suddenly in her Dolman House room yesterday evening after experiencing pain and illness since Sunday night. She leaves a husband and a two year old daughter and was shipped to Bryson for burial at 4 p.m. today.
G. R. White of Fish Creek reports the recent cold snap did not harm his peaches. Plums were in full bloom at the last freeze. he expects a large crop and plans to sell plentiful fruit in Graham this summer.
