In Ricamonp Kentucky on March 27 Mrs Mame Ely aged forty wed the brother of her late husband. The groom Hiram H Ely is fifteen and about seventy five pounds. A license was initially refused but granted after a note from the boy's mother. A magistrate joined the couple and they walked to their home in Lee County Virginia.
At Guthrie Oklahoma Territory a Black man who once led a mob to burn the town has been nominated for the position of police judge.
Moses Vial received a telegram reporting that his twenty year old son William married his aunt Mrs Ellen Watkins of Lorain Ohio yesterday. Mrs Watkins is fifty two and has a daughter two years younger than her husband. The weddings links the widow to the family and shocks Brappock residents.
A shoemaker fits a customer with boots and the buyer objects only to thick soles. Crispin answers that once worn, the objection will gradually wear away.
In a late letter Secretary Carlisle defends his refusal to pay out silver on demand and blames the Treasury’s silver supply limits on law requirements. The Paris Advocate accuses him and Mr. Cleveland of blocking silver coinage to deplete the gold reserve and push bond issuance.
