Young County farmers are showing interest in commercial fertilizer this year signing to try it on a few acres. Fertilizer supplies phosphorous nitrogen and potash and must be used with soil management practices to avoid soil damage.
The C L S C held a March 31 meeting at Mrs A A Morrison's spacious decorated home. Fourteen members and ten guests attended a Bible program on The Tabernacle with demonstrations of its walls furnishings and symbolism led by various members and a closing ice course served by hostesses.
Mr H H Avants left last week to become advertising manager of the Texas Outlook official organ of the Texas State Teachers Association. He served a third term as County Superintendent of Young County and offered no opponent for a fourth term had he run.

County Baptists hold ongoing rallies with the next gathering set for Monday April 12 at Jean Baptist Church. The day features scripture readings, reports from churches, special music, and an afternoon program including methods of procedure in the spring round-up and missions focus by Rev. Lockridge and Rev. Hays.
The First Baptist Church Sunday School in Graham has been approved as a Standard Sunday School by the denomination. Superintendent Stanley H. Peavy led efforts with church officers and teachers to meet 10 criteria including proper officers, graded divisions, use of Baptist literature, Bible emphasis, 75 percent attendance at preaching, evangelistic work, workers conference, diploma holding staff, and annual mission and education goals.
Rev E M Agee plans a large Baptist County Missionary rally at Indian Mound Sunday afternoon with a young people program. The lineup includes Rev Robert Smith Miss Della Anderson Mr Jack Daas Fort Worth Hon Fred T Arnold and Mr T C Gardner Dallas plus an organization session for the Young County Baptist Sunday School and B Y P U Convention.
John E. Morrison longtime Young County resident died at 731 Elm Street Graham early Monday April 5 after months of ill health. He was 77 and a Presbyterian elder who helped organize Graham church built several sanctuaries and supported orphans and widows. He led Morrison Company and Morrison Smith Lumber, owned land, and aided civic causes. He is survived by his wife Annie Edwards Morrison five children and multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral was held at the Presbyterian Church with multiple pastors attending. His burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery beside his wife.
The Graham High School musical groups the Boys Glee Club Girls Glee Club and the High School Orchestra will present a program in the high school auditorium Friday night April 16 A small admission of 15 and 35 cents will benefit the school musical organizations The glee clubs offer many new numbers and the orchestra has prepared a year of good selections for all music lovers.
Walter Ben Hare's three act comedy Much Ado About Betty will play in the high school auditorium Friday April 9 at 8 o'clock. Betty's identity mixups lead to comic situations as acts shift from New York to Palm Beach. Proceeds benefit the Home Economics Club sending representatives to the Girls State Clothing Contest at Beaumont at month end.
Troop 3 will camp all night Friday using a large tent to accommodate all attendees. They plan to depart from First Baptist Church after school by 4 30 and hike to the camp with all Scout officials requested to attend.
Mr Earl Hutchings exited the hospital Tuesday after an appendicitis operation performed on March 28 His wife remained at home ill during his hospitalization.
Delegates arrive for the Weatherford District Conference held at First Methodist Church. Rev W H Coleman of Mineral Wells preached at 11 this morning and Dr H A Boaz will preach at 7:30 this evening. Boaz, bishop of a district including China, Korea, Japan and Siberia, is a Fort Worth raised leader with ties to T W C and SMU. Rev J H Stewart presides. Conference continues through Friday. Graham residents invited to attend.
Graham Music Club in Texas presents a varied program of Texas composers on Thursday night April 15 at 8 oclock in the Methodist Church. Mrs. W D McFarlane supervises the program and will introduce each composer with remarks. The program features solos by Lois Johnson R A Duncan E S Graham J B Rhea and others with vocal solos piano and violin numbers and a male quartet. The audience is invited to attend and hear works by Texas artists including pieces by Guion Mickwitz Lively and others.
Sheriff J B Foster and Deputy S H McCready raided Coffey Flat near the Throckmorton County line and confiscated a very large still. Two windmill vats held about one thousand gallons of mash. the run had been planned near a tank and the still moved for another run. The mash was destroyed and the still taken to the courthouse. Wholesalers appear active in the region.
County Agent J C Patterson invites all Young County residents interested in pecan growing to a barbecue in Breckenridge on April 23 hosted by the Stephens County Pecan Growers Association.
A 50 barrel well was completed on the Ford land near South Bend, southeast of existing wells, signaling potential further drilling in the area. Across Eliasville and Young County fields activity rises with new dericks, Prideaux land producers near Markley, and R. L. Watson sites. In Jack County Kerbow et al. report location 450 north and 450 west of the southeast corner of William Berryman Survey as drilling readiness nears. Buttram Petroleum resumes after fuel delivery, as Joe Preston Nos. 1 and 2 pump at Graham area with No. 1 producing about sixty barrels daily. preparations continue for No. 3 and No. 4.
County Demonstration Agent W. C. Hale terraced about 35 acres for Herbert Slater in Red Top and plans to continue across the farm. Will Atwell terraced about 40 acres this week. Hale has started boys club work in eight communities and urges county farmers to cooperate for lasting results. His office is in the chamber of commerce rooms and he emphasizes calling before long trips to visit.
Miss Ina Mae Bullock, student of Miss Lillie Mae Calvin, will give a musical recital in the Graham high school auditorium next Monday night April 12. She is a junior member of the Graham Music Club and has appeared on many programs this year. The event promises a brief but interesting program and encourages attendance by all lovers of good music.
Mrs Josephine Obenchain delivered a strong message to Graham residents at the high school auditorium last Friday night. She was introduced by Mrs J D Dawson who praised her in a warm welcome.
