A car crash near Plainview Texas results in Earl Thresh of Altus Oklahoma dying at once. His wife and three children plus a sister in law are seriously injured and the sister in law is reported to be near death.
Berlin May 4. Seven were killed at Antonien Huett in Upper Silesia yesterday by Polish rioters, reports received here today. The disturbance followed reports that part of Silesia had been awarded to Poland by the Supreme Council and was quieted by Italian troops who reportedly suffered casualties.
Chicago May 4 Judge K M Landis to quit his Federal Court post to devote full time to baseball commissioner duties. Resignation expected in early June as Congress scrutiny over his two jobs continues but impeachment proceedings are not yet pending.
In Pittsburgh on May 4 two Black suspects robbed Emanuel Stein near the Central Street police station, taking $8,120 in cash. Police pursued leads but no arrests announced.
Serious outbreaks between Albanians and Greeks erupt in Coritza on the border of Greek Macedonia. Eleven Greeks are reported dead and many wounded after Albanian officers and soldiers attacked the Greek Orthodox church and demanded services in Albanian.
Warsaw reports clash day between police and Jewish Socialists leaves about 500 casualties per Jewish papers and around twenty arsons injured per Polish papers. Authorities dispute the higher Jewish figures as exaggerated.
Reports from Wall Street indicate United States Steel Corp would announce a 20 percent wage reduction today. The cut would remove about 12 million dollars annually from the company's payroll, affecting workers and operations nationwide.
Houston on May 4 reports L. R. Kesee a street car operator was held up by two men at the end of his run early this morning. Robbers took thirty dollars.
Chicago May 4 state seeks a sentence of one to ten years for 16 year old William Dalton charged with stealing 772000 dollars worth of Liberty Bonds from Northern Trust Company. The case heads to a jury today as an object lesson to other youths.
In Vienna on May 4 the trial of 129 officers from the old Austrian army opened. They belonged to the death legion forced to serve any anti Bolshevik or anti Communist party. The case alleges monarchist aims shaped recruitment and organization. Membership skewed toward younger members and some nobles.
In Baltimore on May 4 the marine strike worsened as twenty crew members were forcibly seized from a steam ship by an armed party. A fight was reported on another vessel and police noted minor disorders.
Washington May 4 First Assistant Postmaster General Work ordered postmasters nationwide not to act as agents for secret service organizations. The Post Office Department said a recently formed campaign had enlisted several postmasters across the country.
South Bend will soon gain a new hospital after a live Chamber of Commerce meeting. A board of trustees was elected and construction arrangements were made to start erecting the building immediately. The facility is described as modern with a large charity ward for the poor.
London May 4 The Allies prepared today and will submit their final proposal to Germany. In this final proposal Germany is to pay 33375000000 dollars in reparations. The Supreme Council has notified Berlin of penalties to be enacted if terms are not accepted by May 12.
On May 4 in federal court R. E. Lynch and other holders sued Great State Petroleum Company for foreclosure on 1 acres in the Red River fields valued near a half million dollars. The action seeks to recover four hundred forty eight thousand three hundred eighty dollars. Lynch identifies the suit as aimed at obtaining eight acres of land at Arkburnett. The company is in receivership. the receiver is attempting to sell the land.
Ed P. Byars of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce told the Texas Railroad Commission in Austin that a special train to Mexico City via Laredo will run in June. One car is secured by Fort Worth, three cars to be supplied by other West Texas points, with El Paso as the return route.
Chicago May 3 The United States Circuit Court of Appeals forfeited the bonds of eight Industrial Workers of the World members for failing to appear at Leavenworth Prison under the supreme court order. The bonds total eighty thousand dollars. William Big Bill Haywood’s bond was not forfeited as authorities expect to hear from him in Moscow. D Berculi began penitentiary travel from San Francisco while Olin B Anderson surrendered at Helena after leaving Seattle.
The annual Picnic Memorial Reunion for the Salt Creek Indian fight will be on May 16 at the headwaters of Little Salt Creek in Young County between Olmey and Jean near Eichelberger ranch headquarters. A Young and Jack counties committee organized the annual reunion and picnic to mark the 1869 Indian fight at the headwaters of Little Salt Creek. The event on Monday May 16 will be held at the Eichelberger ranch battle ground with hundreds expected. Survivors include Uncle Billie Kutch of Jacksboro and attendees at today’s courthouse meeting included Judge W P Stinson and John Crow among others.
County Agent Edgar Kemp warns that within ten days rain is crucial for Youn County wheat, with protracted dry spell causing damage. He notes little cotton will be planted this year.

The Graham City Commission purchased a road grading machine and other equipment this morning. The gear will be shipped from Dallas within days and is expected to improve conditions on every street in the city. the city already has a tractor to assist with the work.
West Texas Chamber of Commerce Oil and Gas Committee plans a May 11 meeting in Wichita Falls to discuss the oil situation in West Texas and the duty on Mexican petroleum. W. B. Repealee Okla May 4 William D Randall an engineer was killed and T N Garrett a fireman seriously injured when a Frisco train wrecked at Oseuma east of Af ton. The engine and about a dozen freight cars were thrown from the track.
The Temple State Bank, led by former Governor James E. Ferguson, closed this morning. Ferguson cited the state banking department's refusal to allow use of assets to operate the business as the reason for the shutdown.

May 3 McAlester Oklahoma reports a small hurricane that struck Sunday causing fourteen demolished barns and garages eight unroofed dwellings three unroofed business houses five blown plate glass windows and uprooted trees totaling about $75 000 in damages The storm moved between the city and Haileyville east of here and dropped about one inch of rain.
