Newberry and associates are freed awaiting a report on Graham's gas requirements. The City Commission expects engineers to file the findings tomorrow, per agreement with Ranger Gas Company. If Ranger Gas accepts the plans, a charter may be granted amid company officials awaiting the decision.
Yeggmen blew the Rock Island depot safe before daylight and escaped with about $350 in cash and currency and $650 in checks. The blast damaged the safe, door flew across the room, and soap used on the seams splattered the ceiling. Sheriff and ranger warned towns to watch for the robbers. night watchman was away on assigned duty.
The Supreme Court set aside Truman Newberry’s two year prison term and $10,000 fine for illegal campaign spending in 1918. It holds the federal corrupt practices section unconstitutional, freeing Newberry to finish his Senate term.
Thousands of commercial shop printers walk out for a forty four hour week. In Dallas thirty unionists strike while Wichita Falls Amarillo report lockouts. Austin sees one hundred fifty striking workers as open conflict is declared.
Houston April 30 Capt P A Harvin of Angleton the first South Texas appointee under President Harding qualified as United States Marshal for the Southern District The entry of a woman deputy marshal and an accountant as office deputy are announced along with the addition of lone W H Korthauer of Burton as a deputy in the Rio Grande region.
Sterling City Texas May 30 T Moon of Gaines county was shot and killed at the ranch here at 10 am L C Riordan surrendered to Constable Mathis and is jailed on a charge of shooting the man.
May 2 San Angelo Texas a cattle contract suit ended with a fatal shooting as stockman T E Moon from Gaines county left the Sterling City courthouse. Riordan the plaintiff surrendered and Riordan claimed no statement. An inquest verdict said Moon was killed by a shot fired by L C Riordan. Riordan with wife and children had moved to Sterling City a year ago from Glasscock county.
In Houston Texas on May 2 Citizens Guardsmen and police armed to quell a feared uprising after J F Cockrell a negro dentist jailed for cohabitation with a white woman was abducted and mutilated by masked whites. Police and National Guardsmen patrolled the Negro section though reports of planned vengeance did not materialize and normal life resumed.
Graham baseball fans hear from president John Gallaher on a four game skid after bad calls and injuries at Cleburne. Pitching woes followed by a hurt shoulder and a hit to Crawford with a heart blow. Officials expect improvement after today as Graham climbs the standings.
The Union Oil Company expects the Askew well at 1965 feet to become a commercial producer. The Bynum well rests at 1450 feet with an anticipated yield of 50 to 100 barrels. Work continues at the Lisle well as Barnes Production lays a water line.
London May 2 The Supreme Council in full agreement drafts an ultimatum to Germany demanding payment of 232 billion marks and further disarmament with a guaranteed payment. The German answer is to be given by May 6.
Margaret Skinner of Kalida Ohio reflects on how parents cope with upheavals in teens aged fifteen to seventeen. She notes harsh words and sarcasm as common, urges patience, cheerful home life, and outside work to sustain interest, insisting every parent must climb Fool s Hill at least once.
Federal authorities and the Akron police ruled that Gueseppa Sar ionia may keep two wives. He arrived with wife No. 1 and a child, and wife No. 2 with a child and baby. After investigation, Sarionia was told to take his families home and provide for them. The trio left with the two wives embracing and saying they loved each other and would all stay together.
Breckenridge Mo May 2 The world’s oldest Mason, Dr Halstead aged 103, sent a greeting to Masons in Texas. He and his 92 year old wife live on land bought from the Federal Government. He recalls joining a lodge led by Davis Nelson and praises Masonic friendship. He remembers once serving Lexington Kentucky as a physician to Henry Clay and still keeps Clay’s cane.
Tommy explains to Billie his strange soaking method for toughening hands and feet in salt water. A visitor arrives and Tommy states he will soon finish and go sit in it tomorrow.
A classroom joke ends with a student answering that the pine was the porcupine, prompted by a teacher's forest lesson. The quip turns on a pun about a pine tree and a sharp porcupine quill as a student’s reply.
The Supreme Court today denied a petition by Cherokee Indians to intervene in the Texas Oklahoma land dispute asserting treaty rights. John Taylor filed the petition on behalf of the Cherokees seeking to participate in the case.
Paris reports France has begun moving forces toward the Rhine to secure payment of a war debt. The Fifth Cavalry left Meaux the Lyons division followed, and the Thirteenth Dragons departed Meleum for the Rhine. Rail shuttles stand ready to transport more troops as an Ruhr expedition is anticipated after the May deadline.
Earle B. Mayfield a Texas Railroad Commissioner announced in Dallas he will seek the U S Senate seat now held by Charles A. Culbertson with a 1923 term end. He frames the campaign around federal overreach on rail issues and Texas state rights and cites past service in the Texas Senate and Railroad Commission.

New York May 2 Officials of the seamen's union plan to extend the strike to all harbor workers to back a 15 percent wage cut. The nationwide action could paralyze Atlantic Pacific and Gulf shipping with up to 13 million tons and 2,500 vessels tied up if all union members join.
Washington May 2 Secretary of Labor Davis will attempt today or tomorrow to settle the seamen strike that began at midnight.
Wichita Falls Shriners complete plans for a large class at the May 9 ceremonial in the temporary temple at Call Field. The event includes a morning pot, afternoon ceremony, and evening dance, with discussion at a Kemp luncheon where J. A. Bobo presided and Shrine music featured.
Washington May 2 The Comptroller of the Currency issued a call for the condition of national banks at the close of business on April 28.
The Clean-Up Committee under chairman G. Q. Street will resume its tour of inspection tomorrow morning. They have already checked businesses on the west side of the square and the south side of West Fourth Street and expect two or three more days to cover the city. The May 1 target proved too optimistic and the honor roll will appear in the Leader once the final inspection is complete. The committee will tour the city monthly going forward.
Havana May 1 Dr Alfredo Zayas whose election as Cuban President was proclaimed by Congress last night extends an olive branch to Liberal party members in an executive session. Liberals had threatened to block proceedings but a meeting offer prompted them to appoint a commission to interview Zayas who guaranteed consideration for the minority and opposition.
Saturday's strong pitching by Wichita Falls ace McAfee held Graham High School to three runs. Graham struggled with support as McAfee struck out ten and Wichita Falls tallied 13 K's while committing no walks. Mathews of Graham produced a notable running catch in the field.

The four year old son of L. R. Rucker fell on April 26 on a farm two miles southeast of Commerce and broke his neck after stumbling on a pair of shoes. He struck his chin on a chair and died instantly. He was buried the following day.
In Muskogee Oklahoma on May 1 a home owned by Mr and Mrs J D Wilson burned while the parents were at church. Three children perished in the blaze and a fourth, a 4 year old girl, was rescued by an ex soldier but is feared dead from extensive burns.
