Austin March 30 The Street Railway Company of Austin was placed under receivership by Federal Judge West after an application by Rochester Trust Company alleging 780000 dollars in mortgage bond debt.
Former Texas governor Colquitt and associates received Texas Railroad Commission approval to drill in the Clear Fork river bed. They plan five wells, starting with an offset to Shamrock No. 2 and Heidrick Spoont No. 1, 800 feet away, with four more to follow.
A city election will be held at City Hall on April 5 to elect two aldermen for two years. The official ballot lists A A Morrison J C Vaughan E J Bumsted and Claude Cochran with blank lines for write-in candidates.
Oilton Oklahoma reports a peaceful election after a violent clash at the Gusher Hotel. Earl Randell and Jim Fox were shot when a masked group entered to "clean up" the town amid a gambler bootlegger battle. The situation is now improving.
Prairie Pipe Line Company added twenty men to expand pipeline facilities in the Eliasville field. Turner & Harris No. 1, drilled to limestone after a rig fire, completed a new rig and produced about 2000 barrels daily. The Main lease now has four wells all strong producers at about 3200 feet, four miles south of Eliasville.
C B Jones of South Elm street sold his Graham residence to James B Lusk. The house, among the oldest in Graham, has been moved from Fort Belknap and will be replaced by a modern bungalow on the south half of Jones lot while the north half is sold to R L Morrison for future building.
The Chamber of Commerce will hold a full membership meeting at the courthouse to discuss a drive inviting new residents and businessmen to join. Secretary Milton McConnell announced that Graham is invited and speeches will be delivered by local citizens.
Rangers Orberg and Walker and Deputy Sheriff Burnett arrested Cur tis Davis G E Parsons and Sam Lewis last night in connection with the theft of $500 worth of automobile casings from an automobile supply house at Eliasville. The arrest occurred about five miles northwest of Graham on the Newcastle road and the casings were found concealed in a tent.
Special to The Leader Eliasville March 29 The city election passed quietly with eighty votes cast and yielded A E Hofnes as mayor Tom Hill as marshal and aldermen Sam Lothlen RD Jordan WT Donnell Man Young and Hugh Cunningham. New officers will be installed and Eliasville’s city machinery put in operation at the earliest possible date.
A petition is being circulated in South Bend asking for an election to incorporate the city under a commission form of government. Signers include nearly all voters in town, and an incorporation election is expected to receive strong support. A Chamber of Commerce banquet last night drew a large crowd with several prominent speakers addressing attendees.
The Graham baseball club will host South Bend at the old baseball park this Saturday with an exhibition in South Bend on Sunday. Local bankers and merchants plan a game next week whose winner will meet a Wichita Falls team when the railway trains begin running. Admission funds the Graham club’s Texas-Oklahoma League efforts.
The South Bend Chamber of Commerce banquet last night drew a large crowd. Milton McCinnell, secretary, said the event enabled local business men to get better acquainted with brief talks from Mr. McConnel and A. L. Barnes of Graham. Various South Bend issues were discussed.
Ranger Joe Orberg found a still used for corn whiskey parts in a tent at the forks of the river near South Bend. The equipment was hidden in a barrel under clothes and brought to Graham, turned over to Sheriff Saye. No arrests were made.
Lost item notice from the Leader asks that a cameo pin found at the school house or carnival grounds be returned to the Leader office for a five dollar reward.
Washington reports three hundred breweries clamoring for permits to brew beer under the recent Prohibition rules. Commissioner Kramer states one or two breweries could supply the medicinal needs of the country, as the Department of Justice enforces the new policy.
In Piedras Negras opposite Eagle Pass a banquet honored Col James H Bradford commander of the Eagle Pass district. Gen Manuel Perez Trevino hosted the event with Obregon’s staff. Mexican and American military officials attended.
W C Knight and Company, cotton factors, asked a Federal District Court in Memphis to appoint a receiver. The petition lists assets at 1 595 596 08 and liabilities of 958 166 69. The move follows a contemplated sale of its collateral, reportedly decided by Union Trust Company of Chicago.
Dowell Illinois reports the bodies of seven men recovered from the Kathleen mine after a February fire. Officials say none were burned and death resulted from smoke. In St Louis Missouri a marriage license was issued to Lieut Arthur C Hamilton of Sikeston Missouri and Miriam Hunter of San Antonio Texas. Lieut Hampton set a world parachute drop record at Rantoul Illinois with a 24000 foot jump last week.
The Census Bureau reports that about half of the U S population would be of voting age. In Arkansas those over 21 made up 49.5 percent of the population and in Alabama 48.7 percent based on 1920 census figures for age.
Robert Rosenbleuth a former United States Army captain was freed today on a 25000 bond by Federal Judge John C Knox. He agreed to return to Seattle to face charges in the United States District Court there for the October 25 1918 murder of Major Alexander Cronkite at Camp Lewis Washington.
New York report states Utah Copper Ray Consolidated Copper Chino Copper and Nevada Copper directed their directors to close operations immediately due to large unsold copper stocks and weak demand. The move reflects a broad industry impact from sliding metal prices and market conditions.

A top United States entertainer, S S Henry, will perform at Graham High School on April 2 under the Athletic Association. The program features magic, rapid fire crayon scenes, and Henry’s sand art. Proceeds benefit the high school library and athletic equipment. admission is 25 and 35 cents.
