Labor strife on the Wichita Falls and Southern at Newcastle disrupted construction for a week. Three men were jailed in Jacksboro after threats to blow up grading camps. two rangers were sent to Newcastle and Captain Hickman reported to the Governor.

City Council endorsed a Chamber sponsored plan to fund a new fire truck for Graham. The chamber will raise funds and the city will reimburse. Vehicle cost about 7000 dollars from White company. Council eyed city hall extension for truck space and prepared bond sale ordinance after Monday election results. Remodeling pumping station fuel tanks discussed due to recent leaks.

Washington March 25 No trace has been found of the navy balloon missing from Pensacola naval air station since last Tuesday. Aircraft and naval vessels search the Gulf of Mexico as officers fear the men are lost. The balloon was piloted by George E Wilkinson of Houston and carried four Marine Corps balloonist students.
Elvare Russe Mexican consul general from San Francisco arrives as special commissioner from President Obregon to meet Governor Neff in Austin to discuss settlements over alleged excesses against Mexican citizens and the recent north Texas labor trouble. Neff plans to meet in Waco tomorrow.

Superintendents H. B. Cogdell and H. H. Avants lead final preparations for the annual Young County field day meet in Graham tomorrow assisted by Graham High School staff and pupils. More than one hundred entries are expected from all high and rural schools with events from 9 a.m. to noon and field events after 1 p.m. Declamation contest closes the day with all Graham residents urged to attend.
Graham Gun Club held its regular shoot with Shaffer high gun at 47 of 50 and Gallagher second with 45. The tie between Shaffer and Gallagher saw both hit 24 of 25 birds. Clubs members increasingly buy trap guns and adjust to straight stocks, which aid keeping the bird in sight. The state shoot moves from Dallas to Ranger June 7 8 and 9 with about fifteen Graham entrants.
Rapid work is underway on the Smith Smiley building on the east side of the square. Brick laying on the north side began yesterday and the wall is now halfway up.
Washington reports the Department of Commerce announced a ten percent increase in Mexican import duties on cotton effective April 13. The move follows tariff policy actions and affects trade between Mexico and the United States through customs collections and market implications.

Lake City March 24 The first refinery in Young county is under construction east of Lake City. The plant, capable of processing 1000 barrels per day, is led by Harry Pennington of Wichita Falls who will move to Graham. It will operate as The Royal Blue Refining Company producing gasoline kerosene lubricating oils and fuel oil for car lot shipments with motor truck service to north Stephens and Young counties.
Cluskey City will begin immediate grading and graveling of streets. The town recently gained electric and gas lighting. Albert O’Neil filed a protest with the county commissioners over a proposed dam near Cluskey that would back water over the crossing, hindering travel and prompting local opposition to the project.
Austin March 24 The Railroad Commission sustained the Oil Supervisor in a case over ex Governor Colquitt and associates drilling five wells in the Brazos river bed in Young county South Bend field Adjoining landowners challenged the permit a plan for thirty wells was presented and one well drilled but halted by injunction Colquitt noted the river bed productive trend and that one eighth of oil value goes to the State school fund but injunction prevents production, depriving the fund of potential 1500 to 3000 dollars monthly.
Graham High School held its annual oratorical contest in the auditorium with a high standard showing. Ina Mae Price won the girls medal from Guaranty State Bank, Maggie Long took second. in the boys contest George T Spears Jr won the medal from Graham National Bank with Rufus McAfee second. Judges were Mr King Mrs Duncan and Mr Penix. Music by Nona Akard violin club complemented the event.
Washington dispatch reports Dr Cary Grayson rushed to former President Wilson's home after Wilson suffered an indigestion attack this afternoon vorbe. The event unfolds amid ongoing medical attention for the ex leader.
Houston authorities report F. L. Davies, former Dallas branch manager for an automobile tire company, is jailed on a federal grand jury indictment for embezzling $18,100 from the Dallas office after fleeing to Mexico with the funds.
In Baytown Houston the Humble Oil refinery is under armed guard after threats by hundreds of unemployed white men that violence would follow if Mexican laborers were not discharged and whites hired.
A Central Texas boy suffered auto intoxication after eating raw turnips. The Red Cross nurse reported the child was in serious condition until a physician prescribed prayer castor oil and water which coincided with the family accepting medical care and the child improving.
The Graham school held a junior declamation contest in its auditorium yesterday. Avis Calvin won the girls division and J W McLendon, unopposed, was chosen to represent Graham in the county contest held Saturday. Many spectators from around the county are expected.
