A string of West Virginia brief items reports injuries from a Goreton mine accident, a drowning near Elk River, a fatal auto scooter crash west of Elkins, and death of Beckley’s former police chief. Other notes cover burns from a waterproofing chemical, kitchen stove explosion at Cabin Creek junction, a Charleston home fire, and state officials attending Winnipeg meetings.
No successor has yet been announced for Roy G Bailey manager of the local Roberts Main street store after three years. He left recently to start his own business in Mantington. Mrs Bailey, who taught here two years, has accepted a teaching position in Marion County. They have one son.
State police report confirms William Henry Taylor, age 44, found shot in his car near U S Route 50 after leaving home to buy ice cream for his daughter. Police say one chest and one back wound indicate murder. a $500 reward had been offered. Taylor, former Celanese employee in Cumberland, Md., was among furloughed workers earlier this year.
The combined Senate foreign relations and armed services panels voted 19 to 3 to approve the arms measure carrying one billion dollars to rearm NATO nations. Minor issues remain before a final vote slated for Monday, said Chairman O Nally of the foreign relations panel.
Five occupants of a crowded automobile were killed when it collided with a coal truck on WV Route 42 near Petersburg at 12 30 a m EST. The truck driver Dwight Kuhn of Mt. Storm WV was slightly injured and treated at a Petersburg clinic. Identifications were withheld pending next of kin notices.
Missouri Pacific main line service to the southwest stopped for hours as about five thousand trainmen on strike disrupted cotton belt traffic near Dupo and Imo Missouri. Union officials blamed a misunderstanding but directed resumption of cotton belt service at 10 15 a.m. EST.
The September term of Taylor County Circuit Court opens Monday at 9 a m with 16 grand jurors. At least seven presentments are to be reviewed by the grand jury, six felony cases including State v Emerald Kennedy breaking and entering and State v Roy Brown breaking and entering, plus a forgery case State v Clarence Lake and a voluntary manslaughter charge State v George E Shaw. One misdemeanor misdeanor destruction of property State v Frank Huber. Two murder trials are scheduled including Charles B Gaines of Flemington for the murder of Richard B Brunson. See COURT Page 6.
A bone chilling 37 degree temperature kept football fans shivering despite heated excitement at the Grafton Clay Battle game last night. The temperature fell two degrees from the previous night, the season's lowest mark so far. Yesterday the mercury rose to 66 and by noon today was 60. Tonight looks fair and cool, while tomorrow is forecast to be cloudy and slightly warmer.

A five year old girl reported kidnapped yesterday in Trenton New Jersey was found alive and well in Philadelphia with a man companion Lieutenant Francis Deegan of the Fairmount Park guards said. The man Gerald A. Hutt thirty five of Bridgeport Connecticut claimed to be en route to a hospital kitchen job and had no formal charge filed. He said the girl had been in his car overnight but was not harmed.
The Army moves Maj. Gen. Herman Feldman back to his post as Quartermaster General and approves Maj. Gen. Alben H. Waitt’s retirement after suspension tied to a Senate subcommittee probe into influence in government buying. Secretary of the Army Gray announced the actions effective today.

The Grimeses welcomed a baby girl weighing 6 8 at 11 50 p m Thursday.
