New Prison Camp North of Mukden Found by Allies

Chungking Sept 6 A new internment camp about 90 miles north of Mukden where 31 Americans and several Canadians are confined has been located. Lt. Gen. Albert Wedemeyer announced a field processing team in Mukden is arranging contact with the internees and 120 military personnel have been evacuated from Mukden through Sept. 3. Plans were made to evacuate other internees through the new port of Dairen now in Russian hands. Nine Americans, six of them making their first jump, were recently flown into the Hainan area with supplies for Allied prisoners. The transport piloted by Lt Roy B. Sutherland made a 1,000 mile roundtrip from its China base, the first flight into Hainan since the war ended. Russians and Americans in Mukden, Manchuria, trade victories while an American observer said vodka is passed around cordially. See NEW PRISON Page 4.

Information from Japanese POWs to be used in war crime trials

YOKOHAMA September 5. Information from prisoners of war may be used in war crime trials against Japan and will be delivered to General MacArthur for courts martial. Lt Gen Robert L Eichelberger said the Eighth Army will liberate prisoners in northern Honshu and southern areas including Formosa, though Chinese forces will occupy Formosa. Those who killed or tortured POWs would be tried on a court martial basis by headquarters MacArthur.
