Monday 6 pm reading 64 and 86 by 11 am today was 78.

State Troopers reported a near perfect highway record for the Labor Day weekend in Taylor County and across West Virginia with one nonfatal wreck on Graf ton West Main Street injuring two girls. A fatal collision occurred near Welch on Rt 83 killing Bonnie Jerry Christian and a homicide warrant was issued for a Mang o County driver. The long weekend drew thousands to celebrations and picnics statewide.

FBI released its only known suspect in the ongoing search for Cynthia Ruotolo, a six week old abducted infant. Four women shoppers failed to identify Stella Xeniakias, a 23 year old New Haven resident in a mental hospital hold, who was seen walking dazed with scratches on her arms. Authorities dismissed her as a suspect after questioning. The case has drawn volunteers and renewed pleas from the Ruotolo family, as police tighten secrecy around one main lead of a dark skinned woman carrying a baby from Sears Roebuck in Hamden. A search near Mill River was halted with no ransom note found.
The Grafton High School Band will meet tomorrow at 1 30 p m. Band Director Joseph Henry urges full attendance as the Senior Band plans a trip to Philippi Thursday for the Philippi Street Fair. Meanwhile a strike by the American Flint Glass Workers Union affects several plants. only 10 union members picket at Grafton, with other plants reporting broad observance of picket lines and ongoing negotiations in Pittsburgh involving Hazel Atlas and 29 other Glass Container manufacturers members.
A Labor Day sermon by Reverend Charles 3. Hawkins of St. John's Methodist church presents A Christian Bases for Labor. He interprets Jesus healing at Bethesda and Pauls teaching on labor and growth, praising Dr. Aaron H. Rapking of Lost Creek WV for decades of service and leadership in Methodist missions and education.
The Milwaukee Polo Club started its 1956 season before a record opening day crowd. A disc jockey's miscue involved a record titled Stay Away from the Horses found in the pile at the polo field just before the match began.

Officials seek calm as attendance drops and disputes over registration flare.
A boat and motor owned by Martin Shaeffer of Clarksburg burned at Tygart Lake Sunday evening due to spontaneous ignition while being removed from the water. Loss estimated at $1,000, insured, no injuries. About 230 boats licensed at Tygart Lake this summer, Shaeffer’s being the only loss this year.
