Southern Operators Seek Talks To Extend Mine Peace
Washington December 1 A bid from the Southern Coal Producers Association to renew talks with John L. Lewis lifted hopes for avoiding a new mine strike. President Joseph E. Moody said negotiations should resume after talks broke off in October with mine owners in the north and west. Moody said Lewis could advise on terms and noted other operator groups might join peace efforts. Lewis had extended a three week truce set to expire next Wednesday.

Brothers kill 350 pound bear on Cheat Mountain
D M Berson of Elkins and F G Benson of Uniontown brought back a 350 pound bear claiming it required 11 shots to kill on Cheat Mountain. Three men were arrested near a still on Thanksgiving Day near 79 Randolph county and held on 1000 bond for grand jury action. Charged with operating the still were Ison Harper 35 of near Jet Charles Lindberg Lamb 22 of near Elkins and Bessie Tucker 42 of Wymer.

The body of 38 year old police aid Miss Jean Brusco was found behind a house in Pittsburgh's East End. Her head had been crushed by blows and she had been raped.
