Postmaster Edward M. Morgan Fatally Wounded in NYC Shooting
Edward M. Morgan postmaster of New York City was shot near his home at 146th Street and Broadway by a stenographer identified as Frie H. Mackey who then killed himself. Morgan survived initial wounds after surgery though the incident raised questions about motive and possible ties to Morgan's investigations into postal clerk dishonesty. Police found a business card linking Mackey to Hunt Hill Betts and a note indicating an intended contact with Annie Mackey at a Training School, Newburyport. The event occurred as Morgan spoke to his daughter Dorothy and was described as a minute tragedy with the assailant's body later found at the 12th Street station.
