Grafton hosts a banquet at the Hotel Grafton launching the annual Salvation Army fund drive for the city and environs. A foundation stone for a $3 860 goal was laid as speeches and a musical program entertained a crowd of fewer than 50 attendees.
Grafton Camp No 14 United Spanish War Veterans and all 1898 veterans are requested to gather at 166 La Trobe Street Friday at 8 30 am to take part in Memorial Day ceremonies.
Tickets required for Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent. Doors close at 8.13. Acknowledges entry policies and age restrictions for the event, noting an emphasis on supervision and timely arrival.

Washington May 27 President Hoover signed the Williamson bill to transfer prohibition enforcement from the treasury to the department of justice effective July 1. The measure aims to improve cooperation in enforcement and prosecutions and has backing from the law enforcement commission Secretary Melon and Attorney General Mitchell. Melton will share with the attorney general the responsibility for controlling industrial alcohol. Dr James M Doran the prohibition administrator is expected to remain in the treasury department in charge of that work.

Bluefield West Virginia May 27 J A Hubble railroad fireman was exonerated in a magistrate court on charges linked to the death of his father in law Henry Sadler after testimony from eight witnesses. Prosecutor Walter Burtomr said the evidence did not justify presenting the case to the grand jury. Hubble pleaded self defense in the fatal shooting from a family altercation.
