Morgantown May 15 The Reverend Wishart D D of Pittsburgh will deliver the annual baccalaureate sermon for West Virginia University seniors at the sixty third commencement in the University Field House on June 1. Approximately 565 degrees will be conferred by President John R Turner at the commencement June 2. Dr Frederick B Robinson president of the College of the City of New York will give the commencement address. Alumni events run June 2 including the alumni senior dinner at noon and the alumni varsity baseball game at 4 pm. The senior ball begins May 30 at the Hotel Morgan with President and Mrs Turner and the board of governors as guests.
Superintendent Harold A Rice unveiled the commencement program set for May 28 and 29 in the high school auditorium. John Andrew Holmes will speak at the high school ceremony while Dr Reemt Bike Luebbers delivers the grade school address. Reverend Oakes to give the invocation as details for the eighth grade program emerge.
Washington May 15 The first administration bill for enforcing prohibition won approval in both houses with minor differences to be resolved before sending to the White House. It transfers the prohibition unit from the treasury to the justice department under a single head and coordinates with prosecutors. The Senate passed it with slight amendments awaiting House concurrence.
In Washington on May 15 a minor agriculture bill sparked a lengthy filibuster and the arrest of absentee members including Speaker Longworth to secure a quorum. The session stretched into evening as 60 lawmakers visited the restaurant during arrests before enough were present to proceed, with six hours of opposition by Wood and Stafford. The bill, backed by Ketcham, would expand the foreign agriculture information service, a move opposed by some Republicans who argued it should rely on the Commerce Department’s foreign service.
Charles Paschal King, 19, son of Mayor Charles O King and Lula Cole King, died at his Maple Avenue home after a ten day illness. Doctors diagnosed sleeping sickness with epileptic-like fits and nervous disorders. He was a high school graduate and Baptist church member, survived by his parents a younger brother James and sister Betty Jean. Funeral arrangements continuation noted.

Green Bay Wis May 15 The tramp steamer Ansterberg with 4000 cases of Canadian beer and ale aboard was captured by Plum Island coast guard crew late yesterday as it attempted to slip into Green Bay from Lake Michigan. The black painted vessel was running at top speed when chased and overhauled at the Door County peninsula. The ship cleared Goderich Ont for Lake Michigan.
Honolulu May 15 A group of twelve army and navy fliers were rescued late last night by the inter island steamer Hafawaii after their bomber forced down in rough channel waters between Maui and Hawaii. Two others were believed afloat in an army amphibian plane with the fate of two more unknown. Eight fliers were saved from a navy seaplane and an army amphibian that went to the crash site from Luke Field in Hilo.
In northern Nicaragua United States Marines and the marine led national guard intensified operations against bandits. From May 6 to May 12 sixteen bandits were killed in six encounters. Reported identification noted all killed wore red hat bands. no central leader was believed present.
A plea urges immediate hospital construction in Grafton after years of hard water and a recent epidemic. The appeal compares potential calamities to a Cleveland clinic incident, warning that waiting for a disaster could endanger local residents and urging action now.
In Charleston on May 15, A Spates Brady of Elkins presented a list of 100 dam failures to the Cheat river water power hearing. London May 16 Eight American girls curtsied to King George and saw Queen Mary smile at Buckingham Palace. Nine more American women including seven matrons will receive the same honor tonight as the court for the Buckingham Palace Season opens. King George greeted over 800 guests the first time in two years. The Prince of Wales presided with Queen Mary nearby in blue silver brocade and Kohinoor diamond. Princess Mary wore pale blue with a diamond sapphire tiara.
Rowlesburg Preston county shows 1574 residents in 1930, up from 1225 in 1920 and 936 in 1910, with 115 in Reno district and 259 in Portland, one farm enumerated. Union district Preston county lists 2780 people and 945 farms. 1919 census shows 2688.
Washington May 15 The Interstate Commerce Commission ordered an inquiry into bus services by railroads or companies with railroad ties to obtain data to justify action and to ground legislative coordination of motor traffic. The investigation seeks to assess the impact on highway transportation and identify possible coordination of passenger transport between rail and road operators.
