Sculptor Borglum Changes Coolidge Text for Rushmore Panel
New York May 1 Gut zon Borglum sculptor in a New York Times communication revealed changes to the text of Calvin Coolidge’s 500 word history of the United States intended for the Mount Rushmore granite. He altered the phrase to place the era in which events occurred as the year of our Lord 1776 and removed the words Declaration of Independence to mark the Christian era. The inventor said the edits were made to identify the historical era and to convert the text into a Christian dating system.

Charleston, W.Va May 13 A third man faced charges in the state service fund case. Emmett D Hudnall former officer at arms of the cracketen post of the American Legion was held under 2500 for a preliminary hearing Thursday on a forgery charge. Attorney General Howard B Lee said Hudnall served as sergeant at arms of the Charleston Legion Post in 1924 and made app for funds from the state.

The 28th annual Knights of Columbus state convention closed at noon after a two day session labeled the best yet. Edward Dalton of Charleston elected State Deputy, succeeding Frank O’Brien of Wheeling. D J Calahan of Washington gave the principal address. other officers chosen include John L Hechmer Wheeling state advocate, L M McCormick Martinsburg state secretary, E V Shorrs Weston state treasurer, Dr P J McGueken Charlestown state lecturer, J R Logsden Thomas state wardens. Wheeling will host the next convention in May 1931. A banquet for 200 plus preceded an informal ball at Moose Home on Washington street with music by Jack Sitter and his Melody Boys. The gathering honored the city of Grafton for its hospitality.
