Washington May 10 The office of Senator Johnson Republican of California in the capitol building was ransacked last night with personal correspondence files rifled. Every desk cabinet and letter file was broken into as police began an investigation. Continued on Page Five.

County Prisoner Care Costs Prompt Levy for New Jail

The county spends about 600.00 monthly to feed and house 25 prisoners. A 10 cent levy was approved to fund a new jail, running for three years. County court reports the county is debt free. A civil move to fund a new hospital is noted, with continuation promised Monday.

Crabtree executed in Romney after murder spree

Walter Crabtree, 35, of Romney, West Virginia, was hanged at the state prison for the slaying of Justice of the Peace H C Inskeep. He admitted nothing, spoke farewell lines, and raised a final salute as the trap dropped at 8 55 p m. The killings, tied to revenge for prior jail terms, also involved jailer Ben B Miller and Edgar Woolford, with three others wounded. Relatives later claimed Crabtree’s body for burial in Hampshire County.

Rotary backs new hospital drive in Taylor County

Graf ton Rotary Club voted unanimously to support the Taylor County and Grafton Hospital Association in a campaign to secure a new hospital. The drive starts Tuesday and aims to obtain signatures from at least half of Taylor County’s registered voters, with volunteers visiting homes to collect support. Local organizations will join. physicians are urged to discuss the effort with voters.

Barringer resigns post as bank receiver in Charleston

Lon H. Barringer of Charleston resigns as receiver for several closed state banks. Widow Slays Children Then Commits Death by Own Action

Chicago May 10 Mrs Albing De Porte widow of two months reportedly killed her three children ages 11 10 and 9 then cut her own throat and shot herself after neighbors saw the tragedy at her cottage Poverty and grief over a dead husband were blamed for the deed leaving a grim triple murder suicide in a small community.

Roberts Senate Fight Faces Opposition Over Prohibition Issue

Washington May 10 The administration remains confident Owen Roberts will be acceptable as associate justice of the Supreme Court despite a possible anti prohibition challenge. Southern critics claim past anti prohibition remarks. Roberts denies the quotes and will let the record stand tests pending review. Turbulent riot follows courthouse blaze and lynching fears

Indian Viceroy Lord Irwin directs officials as violent mobs burn the ruined courthouse vault and lynch suspect in a racially charged incident. Guards from Dallas arrive after 60 to 70 troops struggle to hold back the mob. A 41 year old male suspect is held in the vault, then the mob sets fire to a prominent building in the Negro section. One private is hurt, and shots fire as soldiers respond.

Funeral services for Ethel L. Roach were held at 2:30 PM from her Beech Street home. Rev. French Boone of St. Pauls M. B. Church officiated. Burial followed at Bluemont Cemetery. Mother's Day Service Planned for Taylor Prisoners

The Salvation Army will conduct a Mother's Day service at Taylor county jail tomorrow at 10 30 a m led by Capt W H Arnold with talks and songs by the officer and assistants. Inmates will receive flowers and participate in the observance.

Tornado Toll Tops 86 Across Oklahoma and Texas

Oklahoma City May 10 The death toll from tornadoes in Oklahoma and Texas rose to 86 after four more deaths were reported. A tornado near Kinta then moved northeast through Sun Bois Rockford Eureka Blaine near Stigler and crossed the Arkansas River north of Keota, killing three more. Mrs Gladys Dawns 21 died yesterday when her house was hurled 160 yards and crushed. Her husband survived with minor injuries.
