Grant Sinsel of Trap Springs road emerged as the highest bidder at a morning auction in the Taylor County Court House for the county poor farm. He purchased about 265 acres and the farmhouse for 10000 dollars, with livestock and household items to be sold later at U S Route 119. Funds go to the Taylor county treasury.
Senator Taft of Ohio pledged Republican support to pass housing and education measures as Senate leaders move toward the next Truman program item. He indicated many Republicans would oppose the reciprocal trade agreement plan while stressing ongoing House Senate talks on rent and a TVA plant funding dispute could delay action.
Governor Patteson tentatively favors leaving rent controls as is while a Senate backed home rule provision would grant state governors power over local decontrol actions. Gene Kirby white and James Kennedy colored were held for the Grand Jury for malicious destruction of property after hurling two bicycles from a rail at Latrobe and Ethel streets. Prompt arrests by Patrolmen Snider Reed Messenger and Deputy Sheriff Matthews ended the case, with the Grand Jury to weigh further charges.
The National Mediation Board has intervened in a nationwide walkout by 2,100 Pullman conductors set for March 31, delaying the strike. The ORC cites pay and working conditions under current contracts, while the railroad adjustment process has stalled. Leroy Newcome nineteen suffered severe burns and injuries when his 1926 model car collided with another vehicle near Green Castle Indiana. Mehlinger was slightly hurt.
